One of the great things about Italy is that its long thin shape means that when you get fed up with sightseeing you are often a relatively short distance from a beach. In many of the more popular areas, large sections of beach are reserved as paid beaches. **Zaha Hadid** is one of the most famous contemporary architects, and according to many, one of the brightest architects of the modern era. She was the first woman awarded with a **Pritzker price** and in return, she continued awarding the humanity with amazing pieces of architecture. Some of them are built in **Italy**. The [Twisted Generali tower in Milano](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/zaha-hadid-for-milan-generali-tower-buqw),**  the MAXXI museum in Rome and the MMM Corones on Kronplatz** are exceptional examples of **Hadid's work, **displaying** **her characteristic approach to the architecture. She is best known as an architect that always insisted on her ideas without compromising. In her objects, it is evident that she engaged more to the aesthetic perspective than the functionality, and this is most often the case on which she is criticised for.

In 2006, a **hub of museums** was formed by the extreme climber, **Reinhold Messner**. The museum project consists of five galleries based at six separate locations: **Firmian, Juval, Dolomites, Ortles, Ripa, **and** Corones.  **

The **MMM Firmian** is the main piece of this museum project and focuses on **man’s connection with the mountains.  **

The first historical mention of the castle, under the name Formicaria (later Formigar), dates back to AD 945. In 1027 Emperor Conrad II transferred it to the Bishop of Trent. In the 12th century it was given to ministeriales, who from then on were named the Firmian family. Around 1473 the Prince of Tyrol, Duke Sigismund the Rich, bought the castle, renamed it Sigmundskron Castle and had it developed to withstand firearms. Of the old castle of Formigar there are only a few remnants left today, mostly located on the highest point of the site. Due to financial difficulties Sigmund had to pledge the castle soon afterwards. As a result the site fell increasingly into disrepair.

At the end of the 18th century the castle belonged to the Count Wolkenstein, from 1807 to 1870 the counts of Sarnthein and from then until 1994 the counts of Toggenburg. In 1976, the half-ruined castle was partially restored by an innkeeper's family and opened as a restaurant. In 1996 the castle passed into the possession of the Province of Bolzano. In the spring of 2003, after much controversy, Reinhold Messner was given a licence for his long-planned mountain museum.

During construction work a Neolithic grave was discovered in March 2006, in which a woman's skeletal remains were found. The age of the grave is estimated to be 6,000-7,000 years.

The **MMM Juval **is dedicated to the "*magic of the mountains*", (mystical mountains and their spiritual significance). The **MMM Dolomites** is dedicated to the subject of rocks, particularly in the **Dolomites.** The museum contains a mountain observation platform that offers a 360° panorama of the surrounding **Dolomites**. The **MMM Ortles** is dedicated to the history of mountaineering on ice. The **MMM Ripa **in **South Tyrol** is dedicated to the mountaineers, with emphasis on their cultures, religions, and tourism activities. The **MMM Corones on Kronplatz** is dedicated to traditional mountaineering. The object hosted in this last museum, which has been opened in July 2015, was designed by **Zaha Hadid. **

The concrete structure that is penetrating the mountain, is adapted in a way so that it allows an interior 270 degrees view. The three-level space is leading the visitor in the space, and the interior seems to have absorbed the surrounding view.
