Sip & Dine with a date so fine!
When you think of a romantic date, there’s nothing quite like a classic dinner. We’ve found some out of the box sip and dine experiences around Belgium if you want to spice up the typical date night.
Where must all dates begin? With food, of course! Arguably the hardest part of going out on a date is picking the right place to eat. Lucky for you, a new food hall in Brussels has taken all the difficulty - and decision making - out of your date night! The Wolf sharing food market can be a complete date spot within itself. With 19 restaurants, 2 bars, and a chocolate factory, they’ve got dinner, desserts, and drinks covered for you! Leave behind the uncomfortable indecisiveness of a date and embrace all the options! Plus it’s centrally located in Brussels, so you can easily find something exciting to do from here - if you’re not too full!
We all know that Belgium has some great quality beers. So why not spend a date trying out the best local pints in a cool venue? Lucky for you, we’ve got three different places for you to choose from, all within walking distance of each other. Make it a fun little bar crawl! First on the list is PAKT, Antwerp’s hidden gem. PAKT is a green area with cute coffee shops, yummy restaurants, and a taproom! Grab some food and head over to Speciale Belge Taproom for a wide variety of beers.
Next on the list is De Konnick Brewery, the creator of the beloved Antwerp beer! In their giant industrial building you can go on a tour or do beer tasting, plus there’s a cheese store next to it that is to die for!
Lastly we have Ginger Tipple - the micro-brewery focused on unique ginger beers (including the world’s strongest at 13%!) If you’re not ready to go home after your bar crawl, check out Berchem Street Art - just a short walk away to witness the longest graffiti wall in all of Europe!
Curious dates to learn something new
Whether you’re going on a first night date or just enjoying a night out with a long-term significant other, there’s always something new to learn about each other. Why not go on a date where you can learn things together? For our most curious couples, here are some date ideas if you want to have fun while using that brain power.
Going to the zoo is always a fun time, especially if it’s a date! What better way to get all the warm and fuzzy feelings than to see some seriously cute animals? At the Antwerp Zoo, there are over 950 species! If you’re wondering where to go on an all-day date, this is it. With over 5,000 animals total, you’ll have plenty of time to spend here. Enter the butterfly garden for some insanely cute photo opts, or grab a coffee from one of the cafes. On Valentines Day or any day of the year, the animals would agree that it’s a perfect date idea.
Nothing screams romance like the combination of art and history! Lucky for you, Bruges is full of both. One special place to visit this Valentine’s day - or for any date - is the Museum-Gallery Xpo of Salvador Dali. This isn’t your typical gallery. Dali’s surrealist artwork will have you feeling like you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole filled with quirky art. In fact, there’s even an Alice in Wonderland section filled with risque sketches. In typical Dali fashion, the entire gallery is decorated with vibrant colours, funky mirrors, and unconventional lighting that will really set the mood for a romantic date.
Everyone knows those insta-worthy couples. You know, the ones who post their relationship all over social media for the world to be jealous of? Well now it’s your turn. Let your inner kid shine through this fun, interactive museum. Plus, all your pictures can be souvenirs of the great date! Once your camera roll is stocked, take a break at the Smile Safari Longue for some insta-worthy drink.
Okay so maybe don’t take that literally. But, if you’re visiting Ghent and want to impress your date, check out the contemporary art museum! The City Museum for Contemporary Art - or SMAK - is one of the newer museums in Ghent, but it still packs a punch (or smack!) Get inspired by both permanent and temporary exhibits of all kids of art. Who knows - maybe your date will get creative and make you their muse!
To the moon and back
You can’t actually give your Valentine’s the moon, but we figure getting a good look at it is close enough! If a date to the planetarium to see the stars sounds like your kind of thing, then we’ve got some options for you.
Travel to a galaxy far, far away from the woes of lockdown! Go for a romantic night date to the Cosmodrome planetarium in Limburg. It's located in the Kattevennen at Hoge Kempen National Park. Go at night to see the stars and constellations for some extra light on your special Valentine’s date. Plus, there’s tons of cute walks and things to see along the way. Planets and moon included.
Is your love written in the stars? Find out at the incredible Cozmix planetarium located in Bruges. Pick up a telescope to see the constellations in the sky! This place literally shows you the entire universe. Choose a day or night visit, both give completely different vibes of the sky. Make sure to go through the park to discover the planets - or at least the sculptures of planets! Once you’ve seen the stars in the sky, gaze deeply into the stars in your date’s eyes as you realize your love is out of this world! For extra brownie points, stop and enjoy a cute dinner date in the Mary Tudor tearoom.
A romantic stroll is a classic Valentine’s Day date or at least part of one. But we’ve found a couple of spots you might know about to make a memorable date.
It’s called the Lake of Love for a reason, people! Romantics rejoice in this scenic park that gives you all the lovey dovey feels. Minnewaterpark is known for the local legend of Minna - a woman who died from love (or exhaustion, depends on how you look at it!) You and your loved one can stroll through the green scenery and take in all the magnificent nature and wildlife. How confident are you with your relationship? Legend has it: if you cross the bridge and kiss your date, you’ll be together forever! If you’re not racing to Minnewaterpark immediately for your next date in Belgium, I’m not sure what you’re doing.
For our arty couples looking for an informative, yet beautiful date idea: go to Middelheim! The open air museum in Antwerp has 400 works of art, including over 200 sculptures. Walk hand-in-hand through the picturesque park, taking in the fresh air and exploring all the contemporary sculptures. The green forest area sets the romantic mood, and you can definitely stop for a coffee at the Middelheim cafe. Bring the bikes along for an adventurous trip, or visit the nearby Castle Den Brandt to fulfill all of your fairytale date dreams!
Want to escape the normal date idea of a museum or art gallery? In Ghent you don’t even need to go inside to find some seriously impressive works of art! Hidden behind the historic old buildings is the Graffiti Alley, the insanely impressive street with over 140 modern works of street art. Be amazed by all the vibrant, striking murals from both local and international artists. Want to contribute? It’s legal in this area, so you’re more than welcome to add something up on the wall - maybe even a self portrait of you and your date? And while it’s not exactly a full on date spot, it’s such a cool area that we think it’s worth a mention. Plus, you’re just a quick walk over to the Korenmarkt with tons of cute bars and restaurants to choose from.
