Skiing in Austria is the perfect choice for this and every other winter holiday. Austria is called „Alpine country“ with the reason. Around 70 percent of the country lies above 500 m and 35 peaks are higher than 3500m. Located in the heart of Europe high in the Alps Austria became a synonym for the skiing in the world. In Austria you can look forward to more than 7000 km of slopes served by more than 2500 ski lifts.

The Austrian Alps are fortunate to have lavish and very long snow season. Skiing in the most of the resorts starts in December and lasts until the end of April. However, there are glaciers where the skiing is possible year-around or up to 10 months in a year. The snow on the ground is mostly powdery and fluffy well into spring. Austria offers both very well groomed runs and deep powder off-piste for the more experience skiers.

Ski resorts are usually situated in the deep valleys, encircled by the mountain ranges. Typical for Austria are the small picturesque resorts and villages, with an onion-domed church as the centrepiece. The villages have been there for centuries, so you can feel the history and tradition at every turn. This separates Austria from other ski destination. In the most cases it is possible to ski right into the village, and the hotels are often within the walking distance to the lifts and if not the most of the villages and the resorts are connected with the free ski buses to the lifts.

Numerous rustic mountain huts offer traditional Alpine cuisine and in the afternoon they became après ski venues, traditionally with the ski boots still on. A lot of skiers choose Austria as the skiing destination because it is known for the best après bars in the world. Celebrate with a few pints of cold beer, schnapps shots, great music and dancing with oompah tunes is also very important part of the skiing experience.

Town Mayerhofen is party Mekka of Tyrol, definitely worth visiting.

Austria is world renowned for its good skiers and the quality ski-schools and instructors. So it is perfect location to learn how to ski or to improve your skiing skills. If you are passionate skier you should consider visiting Zillertal (Ziller Valley) as the world's largest skiing valley. No matter what time of the year you want to ski it is a good option because it offers year-around skiing at the Hintertux glacier.

As you can see there are numerous reasons why skiing in Austria should be number one pick for your winter holiday.
