Delicious Vegetarian & Vegan Spots in Prague

Although Czech cuisine is known to most people for its beer, meat and dumplings, over the years Prague has become a central hub for organic, vegan and vegetarian food.

Prague has become more health-conscious and flourished when it comes to healthy and organic food, thus, it was made easier to accommodate people with different food habits and cravings. Here is a list of some of my favourite vegetarian and vegan places in Prague.

Country Life

My old time favourite vegan place in Prague is Country Life, which dates back to 1998 and is located just off of Prague’s Old Town Square. Country Life offers a wide variety of simple country-like food with delicious seasoning, from pulses and burger patties, to pastas and various kinds of salads and desserts, to die for. Compared to other places, this is more of a self-service kind of place, where the food is priced by weight rather than per cost of a dish. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Country Life has also an organic food store, which is attached to the canteen section. The food store is abundant in all kinds of fresh produce, nuts, seeds and pulses, as well as other foods that can be stored for long-term consumption.

Lehka Hlava

Lehkva Hlava (clear head) is a rather popular and one of the most known vegetarian restaurants in Prague. The place is very unique when it comes to decoration, as each room has a different style of décor, thus creating a special kind of atmosphere during your stay. They offer a variety of dishes, dips, salads as well as delicious homemade vegan Parmesan. The restaurant is located close to Charles Bridge and river Vltava.

Loving Hut

**Loving Hut **is actually a worldwide vegan chain of restaurants, which are scattered all over Prague, so if you are planning to stay outside the city centre you won’t be left hungry. At Loving Hut you can also order your food by weight or you can choose dishes from the set menu. The place specialises in Asian-like cuisine, including Vegan Pho (highly recommended), noodles, curries and much more.

Etnosvet

**Etnosvet **(ethno world) is another favourite of mine, filled with numerous vegan and vegetarian dishes, including sushi. In many restaurants you can find vegetarian options when it comes to sushi, although the combination is rather bland and limited. Etnosvet will really make your sushi experience unforgettable, since it includes specialities such as vegan mayo. The place is ideal for an evening out and perhaps for a more fine dining, as the prices are slightly higher than in other places.

Maitrea

Maitrea (loving kindness) is located close to Old Town Square and is Lehka Hlava’s sister restaurant. It is also slightly bigger and offers much more seating. What is special about it is its interior, which has been designed and decorated in a very feng shui way, including a fireplace and a water fountain, thus proving you with a very zen feel. Maitrea offers a daily menu that changes weekly, but also the standard main menu that includes delicious salads, Mexican inspired dishes, Asian udon noodles, raw food and also Czech speciality dishes. In conclusion, this is a place where everyone can find something on the menu.
