In December, Christmas decorations and Christmas lights are hung all over St[ockholm.](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/what-to-see-and-do-in-stockholm-ask3) The snow falls over the rooftops, and the ocean surrounding the city is frozen. It is the perfect set up for a Christmas Market, and Stockholm has several.
Konstfack, the University of Arts, Crafts and Design, puts together a yearly Christmas Market during one weekend in December. This is an opportunity for the students to showcase and sell some of their work. It is the perfect opportunity to get unique gifts for family or friends (or for yourself). If you are lucky, you might buy a piece of art from an upcoming artist!
The market is situated in the school that is located in the southern parts of Stockholm. It usually crowded, as the event is very popular. Be prepared to queue for about 20 minutes before entering the market.
Skansen is the world’s first open-air museum, showcasing Swedish history as well as Swedish wildlife and flora. The Christmas Market at Skansen is the perfect mix of tradition and history. If you are in the so[uth of Sweden,](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/visit-skane-and-explore-the-south-of-sweden-uv1p) be sure to visit a similar market at Ku[lturen in Lund.](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/visit-the-historic-christmas-market-in-lund-5xqp)
Skansen’s historical buildings and farmsteads are decorated, and the town center is open to visitors. Here, several artisans are showing how blacksmiths and carpenters worked back in the day.
There are plenty of traditional Christmas foods to buy, as well as decorations, handcrafts, and local products. There are several activities to take part in, such as Christmas decorating workshops.
Another unique Christmas Market is the one on Utö. Utö is an island in the Stockholm Archipelago, and every year the inhabitants of the isle arrange a very popular Christmas Market. The island is easily reached by boat from Stockholm City (just make sure that you do not miss the last ferry back to the city), and you can travel with your SL[-card.](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/getting-around-stockholm-public-transport-tips-c1ku)
Discover the St[ockholm Archipelago](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/discover-the-stockholm-archipelago-r449) during winter and experience a unique and local Christmas Market where you can buy locally made products from craftsmen living on the island, eat typical Swedish Christmas food, sweets, and treats. Get one of a kind Christmas gifts from one of the many stalls selling everything from decorations and local products to jam and honey. For those who easily get cold, warm-up with a coffee, hot chocolate, or spiced mulled wine at one of the cafés.
Stockholm has plenty to offer for Christmas enthusiasts. For those who cannot get enough - why not end a day of Christmas Markets with a traditional Swedish Julbord? **
