The countdown has officially started. There are less than 40 days left until the Tall Ships Race, which will this year start on the 3rd of July 2019 in Aa[lborg](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/aalborg-cultural-capital-of-denmark-4409) (Denmark) and finish on 4th of August in Aarhus **(Denmark). Tall Ships Race is one of Europe’s largest festivals taking place during the summer and in which tall, as well as small ships or vessels, participate. The first race starts in Aalborg, Denmark, and heads to Fredrikstad in Norway. The second race takes place in Bergen (Norway), and then heads back to Denmark, Aarhus**, where it finishes.
Like any other event or festival, this is yet another opportunity to party. The harbor of Aalborg gets flooded with people, fireworks and music. It is certainly the event of the year. Even if you are not taking part in the race, there will be plenty of amusement at the dock, including sights of more than 90 tall beautiful ships. Some ships are also open and available to visit, which means that you can plan an event with your family or friends. It is also a popular occasion to organize your wedding ceremony on a deck of a ship, the days prior to the start of the actual race.
In order to enter and take part in the event, you need to register your vessel, and indicate the number of crewmembers you're planning to have. You may also decide to sail alone... although why not signing up for the best memorable experience with a group of friends or family?
The event is designed for anyone and everyone, and is a way to encourage the younger generation to sign up for sail training. So, you don’t need to have any prior experience. You get to have an adventure of a lifetime as you sail through some of the most stunning bodies of water in Northern Europe.
If you are between 15 and 25 years old you can sign up to take part as a "trainee". This means that you will be part of the crew on the ship, take part in the actual race, and learn about all the fun things that need to happen while on the ship. You will be able to learn new skills, be part of an exciting team and have a blast. Some of the tasks that you will learn are cooking on board, navigation, cleaning the deck, and climbing the masts. To take part in the race as a trainee costs 1500 DKK (around 200 euros), for an entire week on board of a tall ship.
Be safe, have fun and good luck!
