Omiš: the adrenaline capital of Croatia

When you move south of Split, you'd think "I've managed to see everything," but after 20 kilometers on the state road D8, there is a town Omiš,** known for its culture, tradition, turbulent history, but also interesting and exciting present. Omiš is a small place that can be seen from at least two perspectives - at zero meters at the sea level and hundreds of meters from the top of the rock that rises steeply above the town. Let's look at natural wonders this Dalmatian town hides and see why Omiš is called the adrenaline capital of Croatia**.

Omiš is a small town, and it belongs to the Split-Dalmatia County. Today, there are no more than 15,000 inhabitants, but this number is multiplied several times during the summer months.

Nature around Omiš

It is impressive to see how non-forested Dalmatian rocks meet the sea, while Cetina River beneath them enters the Adriatic. This is almost an ideal Dalmatian and Adriatic landscape. The river Cetina and its canyon are a story for themselves, but here, together with the sea and hills, they make a beautiful natural combination. To clearly understand the beauty of this scene, please check this video that shows you birds-eye perspective.

The best way to perceive the natural beauty of Omiš, my advice is to rent a bike. The town itself is quite flat, and when you head towards the river Cetina and nearby mountains, the cycling trails are well-marked. You can easily climb to any of the natural viewpoints and enjoy the view of the town, the river, the Adriatic Sea and nearby islands (you will firstly see Brač, and then Hvar and Šolta). Pay attention, it is hard to find a shadow here, so, come equipped with hats, parasols or whatever other sun protection you prefer.

You can also treat yourself with a light walk by the upstream of Cetina River and enjoy the beautiful green and blue colors of its lower stream.

The adrenaline capital

Omiš is also known for its sports activities: races, marathons, triathlon, etc. What Omiš is widely known for is Omiš zip-line, that** gives you an unforgettable view of Cetina River and its canyon, besides the high level of adrenaline. You must reserve a zip-line in advance, and remember that this ride is about 2-2.5 hours long. There are 8 lines, out of which the longest route goes 700 meters, and you will be "flying" at the height of 150 meters above the ground. In addition to the famous zip-line, Omiš offers you canoeing and rafting on the river Cetina**. An unforgettable adrenaline experience in the middle of beautiful nature is guaranteed.
