Trier is the country's oldest city in Germany, dating from Roman times. The city is located between the vine-covered hills of Rhineland-Palatinate and Luxembourg. Porta Nigra is a large Roman city gate which is the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps. It is a part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier! The gate was originated in the Middle Ages. This dark-colored stone gate is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its history dates way back to 170 AD. In Roman times, the Porta Nigra was part of a system of four city gates, guarded the northern entry to the Roman city, while the Porta Alba (White Gate) was built in the east, the Porta Media (Middle Gate) in the south, and the Porta Inclyta (Famous Gate) in the west. In summer, you can have a guided tour from a Roman army officer (actor) in full armor! This best-preserved Roman city gate is definitely worth a visit!

Kaiserthermen or in English, the Trier Imperial Baths, is a large Roman bath complex in Trier. Like Porta Nigra it is also designated as part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady. This ancient baths constructed in the 4th century AD and it is on UNESCO World Heritage list as well. Trier Imperial Baths consist of ruins of three Roman baths, among them the largest Roman baths north of the Alps. When you enter the Imperial Baths, you will first come to the hot water bath which is large enough for present-day theater and opera performances complete with stage, orchestra, and 650 seats. It is worth to check out.

Liebfrauenkirche or in English, Church of Our Lady, is the earliest Gothic church in Germany. Its architecture falls into the tradition of the French Gothic cathedrals. This gothic church was built in 1260 CE and is on UNESCO World Heritage list. Inside of this church is as good as its outside.

Right next to the Liebfrauenkirche, you will see the glorious Trier Cathedral. This cathedral is also known as The High Cathedral of Saint Peter in Trier. The Roman Catholic cathedral is the oldest church in Germany and the largest religious structure in Trier, notable for its long lifespan and grand design. It was built in 270 (!) and renovated in 1270! Inside this cathedral, you will find the Trier Cathedral Treasury and many other valuable Christian art. It is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
