Eating "Haggis" and climbing in Edinburgh

I have already written about magical Scottish locations, but I haven’t written much about its capital, Edinburgh and the wide range of activities and experiences that one could do and have while there. If you are a big fan of Harry Potter novels, then you should visit the Scottish capital, in the coffee shops of which,  J.K Rowling wrote many of her books. In my opinion, an essential part of visiting a city is trying its traditional food;  in this story, I am going to tell you about the national dish of Scotland, Haggis, and what you can do after tasting it, whilst you burn some calories climbing Arthur’s Seat or/and Calton Hill

What is Haggis?

Haggis is a savory pudding, which contains sheep's pluck (heart, liver, and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt; it is mixed with stock and cooked. It is traditionally encased in the sheep's stomach, though now it is often found in an artificial casing instead. Haggis is a must try for all visitors, and it's the Scottish national dish. It is an object of Scottish culinary fascination around the world, but it isn’t a "beauty queen" since at first, it doesn’t look very appealing. However, its taste makes up for its lack of appearance. Its soft, crumbly texture combined with an earthy flavor, salt, spices, and a spicy, peppery kick, makes Haggis a delicious dish, loved by people all around Scotland!

You can buy Haggis in certain supermarkets; you can also get it online, and find it in plenty of restaurants in Edinburgh's High Street or in smaller towns around the city.

Climb Arthur’s Seat

One of the things that I like the most about Edinburgh is finding open green areas all around the city. Very close to Holyrood Park, you can find the remains of an extinct volcano, which is known as Arthur’s Seat (the name probably comes from the legendary tales of King Arthur). It is the highest point in Holyrood Park, and I totally recommend you to hike to the top, to get amazing views over Edinburgh, and burn some calories from all the heavy and filling Scottish food - don’t forget to get proper shoes and water with you.

Climb Calton Hill

Another option for you to get amazing views of Edinburgh is climbing Calton Hill. It is effortless to spot it when you’re arriving in Edinburgh, and people often think of its** resemblance to the Acropolis of Athens, when they first visit it. On top of the hill, you can find a wide range of beautiful and interesting buildings and monuments, such as the National Monument and Dugald Stewart Monument. These are, by far some of my favorite views of the Scottish capital**.
