Khvamli Mountain is located in the western part of Georgia, in Lechkhumi. This mountain is 2002 meters high and is surrounded by mixed forest. In Khvamli, there are numerous caves and the most distinctive one is Tekenteri Cave. During the history of Ge[orgia](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/georgia-and-its-regions-pimo), Khvamli Mountain is mentioned in several chronicles. This place was always unreachable for the enemies as the mountain has such a location that it is really hard to get there. However, several expeditions were held there at different times. In spite of this, it is still inviolable and unexplored.

A legend about Prometheus

As people say, one of the reasons why Khvamli Mountain is a mysterious place is a royal treasure that was stored in this territory. People believed that this treasure could save Georgia when the time would come. Khvamli Mountain is considered an antique-mythological place. According to the old historical sources, this mountain is thought to be a place where mythical Argonauts and Heracles have traveled. The historians also suggest that Prometheus was chained on Khvamli Mountain upon the order of Zeus

In the middle of the 19th century, an Italian traveler and researcher visited Khvamli Mountain. They were searching for the antique Greek sources and the traces of the Argonauts and Prometheus based on the Ancient Greek mythology.  Both of them were pleasantly surprised when he realized that all the locals knew about the legend. According to this legend, the hostile vultures were eating the heart of the Prometheus, who was chained on the mountain. Because of this, the locals were proud if they could manage to kill the vulture. Khvamli Mountain makes this legend even more attractive and interesting when you see a big stone that looks just like a human.
