**Springtime brings fields of tulips to this tiny border town. See the gorgeous flowers for yourself at this flower power haven. **

Sadly, due to people picking the beautiful tulips, this activity cannot be visited anymore. Please respect the farmers' livelihood and do not visit. Our ultimate guide to Holland's tulip season is the one for you!

Forget lining up to enter into a touristy flower garden. Instead, travel out to the beautiful tulip fields of Meerdonk. Not only do Belgium and Holland share a language, they also share much of their history, culture, natural landscapes and climate. So much so that you don’t have to rely on a limited choice of locations to see some beautiful fields of tulips nor do you have to join the crowded line to pay to see them either.

  • Tulip fields can be found in Meerdonk, a small village not well-known and not even well documented on social media yet. Dutch farmers rent these fields to plant their bulbs and in the meantime, this small town gets a new picture-esque look and feel to it.
  • The nearby small town has an ice cream shop called Ijshoeve De Boey where you can get pancakes, freshly baked Brussels waffles and of course tasty ice cream. It also has a playground and picnic benches to make a family outing as entertaining for young ones as it is picture-esque for all.
  • Mostly only locals know about this location so it is not as crowded as paid for businesses offering this experience.
  • Support your local: be respectful of the fields and support your local farmers; don’t pick the tulips and be mindful of your step.

Tips and Tricks

  • You can park down Lange Nieuwstraat or if there are too many cars already you can also park behind the field just off Polderstraat.
  • If you want to pose for a photo while holding some flowers, please don’t pick them! Support your local farmer. Instead easily find ones on the ground next to the fields.
  • a second smaller tulip field with different colours can be found on Molenhoekstraat, though you are not allowed to walk through it.

It doesn’t get too busy during the week, but could on the weekend as this spot is really here for only a limited amount of time every year.

Getting There

  • You can’t find it marked on google maps but if you follow Lange Nieuwstraat past Polderstraat you will see the bright colours of the tulips.

  • By Car: parking on-site alongside the road

  • By Bus: 9min bus ride from Sint-Gillis-Waas via the 240.
