When planning your next food destination escape, look no further, Copenhagen is your place to be. As you might have already heard the Danish capital is one of the central food hubs in Europe and the world.

Copenhagen has a rich culinary and fine cuisine culture; from fine dining to street food, which includes Danish specialties, and various foods from all corners of the world. Have a look at my previous story to get more of an insight and guide to some of the best street food in Copenhagen.

Without further ado, let me share with you some of my favorite places to grab a bite. So what exactly makes Copenhagen the world’s food capital? One could argue that it is the variety of world-wide cuisines which are available in the city, as well as some of the most refined dishes you will ever find.

Terra Urban Trattoria

Terra Urban Trattoria, as you might guess by the name, is an Italian restaurant, as well as a wine and cocktail bar. It is located in the Nørrebro district, right next to the Copenhagen lakes. Before diving into the food specifics, what attracts people to this restaurant is its philosophy about sustainability and zero food waste, but also cooking and eating according to seasons.

Terra also means earth, which is an inspiration to return to the flavors of mother earth- following a balanced diet and cooking with local produce. Don’t forget to order a glass of delicious Italian wine with your dinner, and make those taste buds happy!

Wok Shop

Wok Shop is a Thai inspired cuisine restaurant located in central Copenhagen close to the shopping district, and right next to Kongens Nytorv (King’s New Square). The restaurant is slightly hidden from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, as is it is found in a small street, with a discreet entry a few steps below street level. The interior is full of wooden tables and long benches, creating a very cozy atmosphere.

And most importantly, when it comes to food, I would highly recommend starting off and ideally sharing some summer rolls made from rice paper — followed by the red curry with rice as the main dish. This is probably one of the best Thai red curries I’ve ever tasted.

Trattoria Fiat

In case you are not a fan of Asian food or would like to keep it European for the night, then head over to Trattoria Fiat. Before making your way to the restaurant, why not stroll down Nyhavn to admire the picturesque buildings on both sides of the canal, where you will always find a lively and vibrant atmosphere. You might have already guessed; this is an Italian restaurant, which got its name after the Italian car Fiat

Fiat is a classy place, ideal for dinner, but works for lunch as well. Before you even take your seat, you will be served homemade Italian style bread and a small plate of olive oil to dip. Order yourself an aperitif, and take your time to study the menu. You can start with a beef Carpaccio or beef tartar. For the main, you can order homemade pasta with truffles or one of their delicious wood-stone baked pizzas. It might be a tough choice, but whatever you order, you won't be disappointed. Don’t forget to ask the waiter to give their recommendation for the best bottle of wine from the heart of Italy. Buon Appetito!
