Unique, crystal clear beaches in Limassol, Cyprus

Limassol is the second largest urban area in Cyprus after Nicosia. It is located on the southern coast of Cyprus and it is the capital of the homonymous district. It has been ranked by TripAdvisor as the 3rd upcoming destination in the world. Also, Limassol has been ranked 89th worldwide in "Mercer´s Quality and living survey". In general, Limassol offers a great quality of life to the locals, as well as to its visitors. 

Like every location in Cyprus, Limassol is also famous for its "quality beaches" and of course, its always shining sun. For these three reasons, we cannot doubt why Limassol is one of the most preferable destinations worldwide.

Zapalo Coast (Tripiti)

The most magical beach of Limassol is situated in the area beneath the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, at the Bay of Episkopi. This is why it is known as Apollo beach, though for many it was also known, as the Gulf of Tripiti or the Bay of Zapalo.

It is located 20 km away from the city of Limassol, towards the western end of the countryside. The Tripiti Gulf offers incredible views that one can enjoy while on Zapalo Bay. To enjoy the beauty of this Gulf you have to reach the edge of a high cliff, as the beach is nestled beneath it; this is the reason why the characteristic rock of this coastline has been formed. The sharp rocks, filled with falcon nests, are one of the elements that make up the unique, wild charm of the setting at Zapalo beach, especially when one gazes upon the view from above. 

During the winter months, the access to the beach is often closed, especially when the weather conditions are bad; though even on the best of days, the uneven ground makes getting there a challenge. Only experienced drivers should attempt to reach this beach, with a vehicle that is suitable for off-road driving. Extreme caution and skills are also recommended for people, who choose to descend to the beach on foot.

However, while gazing down from the top of the large rock, the view will definitely reward the onlookers with its unparalleled, panoramic view (especially at sunset). The image of the small fishing harbour with its pier, the clear waters, and the small lagoons, created from the extraction of materials from the sea bed, all create a one-of-a-kind setting. 

Pissouri Beach

The Pissouri gulf is located on the southern edge of the old village in Limassol, approximately 37 kilometers west of the city of Limassol. It is a long coast with colorful pebbles in a variety of sizes and colors, as well as fine sand in certain parts. 

This beach is suitable for water sports because it usually has waves of medium height- especially out in the open water- and it is ideal for surfing and other water activities. It is a relatively safe coast, even though it does get quite deep rather quickly, thus it is overseen by lifeguard services. On the west side, there are restaurants and kiosks, as well as "umbrellas and sunbed" rental services.

The Pissouri gulf has many different sides, which cover all kinds of preferences. Whether you prefer a more organized beach, or looking for something more serene and isolated, or even seeking action or just simply to relax, there is something to suit everyone's taste. At the eastern and western end of the gulf, there are high-rise cliffs which lead down to the beach and create smaller coves, which one can reach by climbing over the rocks. These coves are a preferred area for nudist bathers.

Kourion beach (Agios Ermogenis)

The beach, which is overlooked by the archaeological site of the ancient Greco-Roman amphitheater of Kourion, is located in Episkopi village, around 17 kilometers from Limassol. The beach is covered with sand and pebbles, both on the shore and under the water. As the water is quite shallow there, this beach is popular among families with small children.

The beach provides all necessary amenities, such as sunbeds, showers and bathrooms. The restaurants lined up on the coastline offer delicious seafood and Cypriot cuisine options. Thus, this location, which is also known for its archaeological history due to its proximity to the Kourion amphitheater, offers an ideal option for a fun day-trip.

With strong winds blowing on this beach from time to time, it is also a great option for those who love water sports. The waters are suitable for windsurfing, kite surfing and more. So, this large coast in the western Limassol can leave everyone satisfied, no matter their taste or age.
