Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and if you are reading this story, you may be thinking about potential getaway places to celebrate love in Spain. The Valencian Community is full of stunning medieval towns, making the perfect and most romantic destinations to escape city life properly. Would you like to find inspiration and spend a romantic weekend somewhere unique? Then, keep reading this story because you are about to discover two charming medieval getaway locations in the province of Castellón.

Morella

Morella, the medieval town in the interior of Castellón, is a journey into the past. Nevertheless, Morella is considered one of the most beautiful villages not only in the Region of Valencia but also in the whole of Spain. Protected by the presence of an upper village and by its more than 2 km of walls still standing, this medieval town has seen the passage of Iberians, Romans, Arabs and Christians throughout history.

Strolling through its narrow cobbled streets, tasting tasty products from the interior of Castellón, visiting some of the most popular tourist attractions like its stunning walls and its incredible castle on top of the hill, taking some of the many hiking trails in the surrounding areas or simply relaxing, are some of my favourite activities to do in this jewel that captivates couples with its prominence at any time of the year. On top of this, Morella provides its visitors with different types of lovely accommodations, including luxurious hotels or rustic apartments, which suit many types of budgets and plans.

Segorbe

Another romantic option in the interior of the province of Castellón, but much closer to Valencia than Morella, is Segorbe, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, which also has well-preserved walls. This picturesque town is located between mountain ranges and offers visitors a rich heritage to explore.

The castle of Segorbe or de la Estrella dominates the hill of Sopeña, and its ruins can be visited by walking the simple path through the mountain. The next point to see in Segorbe is the medieval walls that begin under the castle and blend in with the houses and its impressive cathedral. Segorbe's surroundings are privileged for being between the natural parks of the Calderona and Espadán mountain ranges, where you can organise outdoor activities and visit the magical Salto de la Novia waterfall.

And if that was not enough, Segorbe is well known for the wide variety of old buildings that have been turned into stunning hotels and spas for those couples who seek quietness and peace in a medieval town surrounded by amazing nature. One of the most popular and highly rated accommodations is the Hotel Spa Martín el Humano, with a special charm.

As a history lover, I find medieval towns very romantic. Morella and Segorbe, located in the province of Castellón, would captivate you and your partner with their charming and romantic atmosphere and cultural heritage. I think they are ideal getaway places to celebrate love for Valentine’s Day
