New Year Resolutions in Valencia

This is the beginning of a new year and everyone has different resolutions and goals to achieve. One of my resolutions for 2019 is about getting to try as many new types of cuisines as possible. It is very easy to always go to the same restaurants or bars one goes to normally, because you already know how good the food and the service are there. But I want to make sure that I keep exploring new places and, most importantly, trying different kinds of cuisines, because it is really important for me to maintain the sense of exploration in everything I do in my daily life.  

Especially due to moving to a new city this year, the coastal Spanish city of Valencia, It's been a few months of exciting new things, places and experiences. And yet I still have a really strong urge to keep finding new things and new parts of the city. Spanish culture is very concentrated on spending time with friends eating and socializing, so I think it's one of the most loved method of exploring. There is some great Thai food in Valencia, as well as many beautiful areas to explore for cuisine lovers.

Mexican food...

In this article, I am going to talk about the place I visited a couple of weeks ago, that has become one my favourite restaurants of Valencia, located in the heart of the city, in the beautiful Plaza de la Reina (Queen Square in English): Vento DF. Vento is a Mexican restaurant that offers an incredible variety of  Mexican food, very good service, and very cool decoration. To be honest, one of the things I like the most about Mexican restaurants is the Mexican decoration, that I would define as a strange and intriguing mix of morbid shapes combined with energetic and punchy colours. The style is different from traditional European decoration and, Vento DF has a bright and huge mural of the amazing Frida Khaló hanging on one of the walls of the restaurant, a very nice dinning area upstairs, and a good terrace for those who prefer being outside to soak up some sun and experience the energy of the city in Plaza de la Reina where the Cathedral is. 

My recommendation is Totopos Rosita (fried corn chips, a whole avocado, a mix of melted cheeses, fried eggs, crunchy bacon strips, purple onion, cilantro and a touch of chipomayo sauce), tacos and nachos. Everything is really good, and the relation between the quality of the products and the prices is fantastic. So, if you are around the city centre of Valencia, and want to have some Mexican food, then you should definitely go to Vento DF and you won't regret it.

There are parts of Spain that are a little mono-cultural, but Valencia is certainly not one of them. This is one of the best cities to explore in terms of sheer variety. Here you can find any and every type of food, products and people, and it's one of my favourite things about the city.
