Copenhagen's popular LGBT hangout spots

Denmark has one of the most developed LGBT law systems in the world, where same-sex marriage has been legalized and was granted legal recognition in 1989. 

Later on, in 2012, the church of Denmark made it possible for same-sex couples to celebrate their union in the church as well as in the town hall. Quite advanced and open-minded compared to some other European countries! Denmark, overall, and especially Copenhagen, has one of the friendliest LGBT communities. Café Intime; coffee, drinks, jazz, and drag shows

Our first stop will be in Fredriksberg, where you can find Café Intime. An elegant café with a good reputation among the LGBT community, which also hosts a piano-bar and live jazz sessions. The interior of the café is cozy yet very old fashioned, with wood furniture and antique-looking carpets. This place organizes numerous events during the week, including drag shows, and stays open until 2 a.m. every day of the week. On Sundays, you can enjoy a calmer night with a live jazz performance.

Jailhouse, an LGBT themed restaurant

Moving into other areas of the city, if you are looking for a fun and unique place to grab a drink or a bite, then check out 'Jailhouse' in central Copenhagen. This place organizes evenings with different themes- an ABBA evening, for example, or activities such as bar-quizzes. The bartenders and staff that work at Jailhouse can easily be spotted and recognized as they wear blue, grey, or red guard uniforms, just like in a jail. And of course, don’t miss the bar’s happy hour every day from 15h until 21h.

Nightlife: Masken Bar & G-A-Y Copenhagen

So now that the evening is ahead of you, here is a nice suggestion for an unforgettable night out in Copenhagen. If you are looking for an oldie but a goodie, then Masken Bar should be on your list. This is the oldest gay club in Copenhagen, and it was awarded as Denmark’s Best Gay Bar in 2013. Conveniently, it is also located in Copenhagen’s gay district, close to Norreport and Radhuspladsen (townhouse) Metro stations. 

Another option is going to 'G-A-Y Copenhagen,' which is also one of the most popular gay clubs in town. You can expect to have a fantastic night out at this club and listen to some of the best music from well-known DJs. Be reassured that you will have a wide variety of drinks to choose from that go along with a great presentation at the 'G-A-Y.'

Copenhagen Pride

If you find yourself in Copenhagen in August, make sure to take in part in the largest human rights event in the country, the Copenhagen Pride Week! This is a massive event, which lasts a whole week and where the turnout has been increasing over the years. The pride starts off at the Copenhagen Town Hall and tours the entire city, combined with concerts, shows, films, and celebrations all over the country’s capital.
