South Ossetia in located in the center north of the country and borders Russia to the north.

The region declared itself autonomous, but still it is not officially recognised by lots of other country. The region offers some really old monument like an old church from the 9th century. The landscape of the region is really green, making it an ideal place for some nice treks in the forest or in the Liakhvi Nature Reserve. Tskhinvali is the capital of the region, which is not considered very touristic as a city from the travelers, but it has many monuments dedicated to the victims of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict.
