Travelling and discovering new **countries, cities **and hidden gems is always a fun and exciting thing to do. But what makes it even more enjoyable and relaxing, is being well-prepared and informed about the places you are visiting. Probably one of the first things you do is to figure out the **transport system **of a certain city or country you plan to visit. So, to save you some trouble while you are planning your trip to my country, I listed the most common means of transport **and the best ways to travel around Slovenia.
If your trip to Slovenia is short and you would like to experience as much as possible, I would recommend *travelling around the country *by car. You can easily **rent a car **and get to see our country’s most beautiful and diverse places in just a few days. This mean of transportation is also the best option if you wish to visit some of the places that are more difficult to reach by public transport.
You can, of course, always use **public transport **like *buses and trains *for travelling from one city to another. The *train network *in Slovenia is managed by *Slovenian Railways *or *Slovenske Železnice, *and you can easily find the routes and *train departures *on their website. All of the information is also available at Slovenia’s main railway station in Ljubljana. The bus is another great option for traveling in Slovenia, as you can easily reach bigger cities, as well as smaller towns and places where the train routes aren’t available.
Another thing you will notice is that **taking a taxi **is quite common in Slovenia, especially when it comes to short distances in the big cities. That does come handy after a night out, and almost every city has its own taxi company whereas the price for such short trips isn’t too high.
If you like to hang out with local people and get a **cheap ride **at the same time, you should try out the website Prevoz.org. People from all over Slovenia post daily on the website, offering the option of **sharing a ride **to a certain destination. What I love about this is the amount of offered rides and, on the top of that, you can always arrange for a pickup, so that it can be much more flexible than public transport. Not to mention the prices that are usually much lower. At the same time, you get to know new people and maybe even get some local tips. What more do you need? Of course, I have to mention the downside – the human factor. The ride is not 100% reliable and can be cancelled due to whatever reasons, but that doesn’t happen often.
If you are accommodated in Ljubljana – the beautiful green capital of Slovenia and wish to see and experience the city and its most famous sights, the best way to *travel around *it is by city bus, also called “trola”. There are 42 lines available, covering a large part of the central Ljubljana region and even taking you to some of the other towns located nearby. To use the *public transport *of Slovenia’s capital, you need to buy a card - called Urbana, which you can get at the *Bus station Ljubljana *or in the tobacco shops. You then upload a certain amount of money for a needed number of rides on your card and off you go. You can always recharge your card and continue exploring the city.
I hope this information was helpful and you got to find the way of **travelling around Slovenia **that suits you the best. In such a way, I’m sure, your experience in this *lovely country *will be much more comfortable and enjoyable.
