Timeless promenade in Mostar

Indeed, each visitor to charming Mostar will agree wholeheartedly with this statement. Not only that this is one of the sunniest cities in Europe, but also the one with predominantly light-coloured architecture. For a complete light experience, do yourself a favour and stay overnight in this city. Evenings full of illuminated sceneries will inspire you to come back.

Mostar is perfect place for walking tours, as main sightseeing points can be seen in one day only. While you stroll through the old city, its ancient walls & fascinating antique shops will tell you everlasting sagas from the history of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The ideal spot to grasp the essence of local culture and history is the Old Bazaar. Located on the left riverbank from the Old Bridge, the Kujundžiluk (as it is locally called), encompasses all sorts of craft shops, mainly goldsmiths and coppersmiths. It is the best place in the city for hunting street art, as well as finding authentic paintings and carvings of The Old Bridge, Mostar’s core landmark.

Actually, in the 16th century, Mostar was an important trade and craftsmanship centre. As the trade was flourishing, the city started attracting Greek, Jewish, Venetian, Turkish and Armenian traders, who were coming for business here. It was not rare to see that some successful traders from Mostar were moving their business to Paris.

When in Mostar, you will feel a desire to sit down and absorb the scenes and sounds. Luckily, unlike most places in the world, here you will never be asked to leave even if you have been drinking a coffee for hours. This is exactly what locals do as well. No wonder that Mostar has as many cafés as London has pubs.

Gastronomic offer in this city is excellent. Countless restaurants with delicious food and fair prices are at every corner of the old city. For a local fast food, find some buregdžinica or aščinica, but if you fancy fine dining, I would suggest tasting locally bred trout in one of the fish restaurants along the Neretva River. Whatever your choice is, be sure that those dishes are made of local fresh and mainly organically produces goods, which makes them totally irresistible. And if you do it in the evening, the magical moments with splendid views are guaranteed.
