The Abbey of San Vito is probably one of the most photographed places in A[pulia](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/top-4-reasons-to-visit-apulia-uci6). This place is one of the flagships for the beauty of this region. An impressive baroque building, colorful fisher boots and crystal-clear water. This small spot is definitely one of the most picture-perfect places in the region.
The unique abbey is located at the natural port of Calo San Vito at the Adriatic Sea. It is located only 4 km north from the popular touristic destination Polignano a mare. The small costal town is particularly famous for the stunning cave restaurant Grotta Palazzese **and the World Finale of the spectacular Red Bull Cliff Diving Event.** Since Polignano is a must-visit place for every visitor, don’t miss out on visiting the spectacular abbey, located directly at the sea.
For many Italians, San Vito is a popular destination for daytrips, since it also offers very nice restaurant options. Two of them are located directly at the port: Locanda dei Benedittini and La Veranda di Gisela. Locanda dei Benedittini is a former ol[ive factory](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/the-gold-of-apulia-e6a9), which seems quite small from outside but has an impressive interior space, with vaulted ceilings and can fit approximately 300 people. The pasta and seafood dishes are particularly popular at the restaurant. La Veranda di Gisela offers fresh, delicious fish di[shes](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/apulian-cuisine-ihzk) and a perfect sea view. Due to the perfect location, it is definitely recommended to reserve a table in advance on the weekends.
The only downside of visiting the picturesque beach section of San Vito, is that unfortunately you cannot enter the abbey itself. Since 1795, it is a private property of the family "La Greca" and it is not open to visitors. The little church of the abbey though , is open specifically to religious visitors.
In summer, an afternoon in San Vito is also perfect for sunbathing and swimming in the shadow of the impressive abbey and defense tower. The water there is very clear and clean and usually, it never gets as crowded as any other regular ci[ty beach](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/gallipoli-the-historical-paradise-beach-fm50).
The abbey of San Vito is a beautiful, historical spot perfect for a daytrip in the warmer months or for a delicious dinner with a spectacular and unique view.
