Wherever you go in Tb[ilisi](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/tbilisi-a-capital-of-legends-tel8), you will be able to see the golden dome of the Holy Trinity Sameba Cathedral. I think you would love to know more about it, as this church is one of the main sights of Tbilisi.

The history of the Cathedral

This breathtaking cathedral is very important for all Georgians as many people took part in its construction -, especially wealthy citizens. In 1995, when there was only the foundation, people wrote their names and wishes on the stones, which were then used in the base. The most interesting fact about its construction was the contest. When the Patriarchate (the highest position in Orthodox Church) announced a contest for the cathedral’s project, even though more than a hundred projects were submitted, there was no winner in the first round. Finally, they chose a unique design of the architect Archil Mindiashvili. So the cathedral was constructed between 1995 and 2004.

Sameba, one of the world's highest Orthodox cathedrals

Sameba is the seventh-highest Orthodox cathedral in the world. It proudly rises above the left bank of the Mtkvari River and watches over the whole capital. In total, the cathedral is around 100 m, including underground floors. The reason why Sameba looks so stunning is that they used only natural materials in the construction process. Attention was paid to the single details. The beautiful floor, which is made of marble tiles and the chapel which they decorated with mosaic, make the cathedral breathtaking. Furthermore, the most talented group of artists painted the frescoes.

Peace and powerful energy

When you enter the church, you feel a powerful energy and positive vibes. Apart from its beauty, these feelings come from the fact that the *foundation of the cathedral* was done according to all traditions and rules. They used pieces from the saint places in the construction of the cathedral's base. They also brought sand from Jerusalem. The Patriarch and the President *ordered bells for* the cathedral in Germany.

Apart from the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the complex includes the residence of the Patriarch, a monastery, hotel, and the museum. It also consists of nine churches, five of which are located under the ground.
