A witness of past centuries

Pučišća is located in the small bay on the northern part of Brač island. Even this small town had a very interesting past. Many towers along the coast were involved in defense of the city. . At one moment this place had fifteen towers. From this period (Middle Ages), Pučišća has another name - The Port of towers. Moro Palace and Castle Žuvetić are beautiful, and they witness of the Renaissance times. Walking down the path along the coast, you will find a small beautiful church Saint Cyprian.

A town in the stone

Stone is the symbol of Brač Island. Nearby Pučišća, there* are three quarries, and the stone varies in its creamy white colors. You will notice that this stone is like a tradition in Pučišća. Everywhere you turn, almost every building is made from that stone. It looks like the whole town is carved in stone or that the whole town is a model made for an exhibition. You will walk down the path covered with stone cubes that are the same size, and it looks like every piece is placed there very carefully, by hand. The town has its amazing white color thanks to this stone - you will feel you are in the middle of a museum. Thanks to the stone, the town even has a long tradition of stone carving,** and they even have a school, Sculpting Academy Pučišća*, where you can learn and develop this kind of skill. The tradition of stone carving is cherished since the Renaissance in the same way and with the same tool as it was at the very beginning. You can visit the exhibition of stone belfries by Josip Radić, the replicas of many churches of Dalmatia, made of stone from Brač.

Fun fact: Since the Brač is the island rich in stone, the White House in Washington, USA and the Parliament in Budapest, Hungary were built partly of the stone from Brač.
