Polignano a Mare is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities of the southern-Italian region of  Apulia. It is located just a 30-minute drive from the Apulian capital Bari and can also be easily reached by train.

This small town with 18.000-inhabitants is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. Polignano a Mare gained international fame, not only due to its scenic coastal houses but also its Red Bull Cliff Diving Event and the unique cave restaurant “Grotta Palazzese”.

Like in almost every other Apulian city, the historical center is the first place to visit. Charming, narrow streets covered with flowers and plants and numerous viewing platforms, make the old town truly spectacular. Polignano is not a secret gem and it can get very crowded, especially in the small, narrow streets – tip;  if you can, avoid going there on the weekends, especially on Sundays. The magic essence of this city is found when you're getting lost in the beautiful maze of the historical center!

There are countless restaurant and café options, but Polignano a Mare is definitely the perfect place for a picnic. Right in front of the historical center, there is a huge natural stone platform with a perfect view of the famous, white coastal houses. It's considered to be the perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy the surroundings. It is also one of the best spots for capturing memories with your camera.

The city has also a beautiful beach directly located in the heart of the town. The stone beach has a wonderful view and is very clean. Considering the popularity of the city, the beach section itself is quite narrow but long, so it is recommended to come early if you want to sit somewhere closer to the water. If you want to explore Polignano’s picturesque coastline more privately and from farther, you can also rent a boat or paddleboat.

This beautiful town should, regardless of the season, be included in every Apulian trip. The famous views and beautiful old town make every visit worthwhile!
