Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage is one of the remarkable parks in Lyon, representing its real green lungs. Created in the 19th century to prevent flooding, today this space is a vast protection zone for fauna and flora. But, the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage is also an incredible recreational area. The inhabitants of Lyon love to come here to take a bath on the artificial Eaux Bleues Lake. This lake that represents about 16% of the total park area is also perfect for many nautical sports from rowing to sailing. Children are also very fond of this park. Here, they can take golf classes, or even have an unforgettable birthday party.

A story about the Grande Parc

In the mid-19th century, the French authorities decided to prevent the flooding of the River Rhône. For that reason, two canals have been dug. Between 1848 and 1857, the Miribel Canal was made, and after that between 1892 and 1899, the construction of Jonage Canal was undertaken. At the same time, surrounded by those canals, the Island of Miribel-Jonage was created on the River Rhone. This island was gradually developed and became a protected "natural site." Finally, in 1968, the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage was inaugurated on this site. Today, this place is perfect for all water sports lovers. You can take a bath at the four beaches on the Eaux Bleues Lake (Blue Waters Lake). On this pond, you can also do some rowing, canoeing, sailing and even fishing. This park is also great for long walks in the incredible natural environment as well as for biking, roller skating, and jogging. In the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, you can also play golf, tennis, and badminton. And of course, you can have so much fun on the zip-line going above the Eaux Bleues Lake.

Festivals

In the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, you can attend some very interesting events and festivals. One of the most interesting is Woodstower. Since 1997, this festival takes place at the end of August and beginning of September in the gorgeous, natural ambience. The Woodstower Festival has four open-air stages, and each of them is a different universe. You can attend concerts of many famous French and international electro and rap musicians, as well as the most incredible street theatres shows. This is also an eco-responsible event. Designated as one of the most eco-friendly festivals in France, Woodstower is doing everything to limit its impact on the environment. The visitors are also encouraged to come to the festival by shuttles or even bikes instead of cars.
