La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) has become the most-watched non-English series on Ne[tflix](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/find-the-chicas-del-cable-in-madrid-wruq) and a real international success. Now everyone associates the Spanish Surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí, with the series since he was chosen to be the heist team's mask design - thus the series' main symbol. A stroll through the ca[pital of Spain, Madrid](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/madrid-by-night-after-dark-in-the-spanish-capital-l3sl) in search of the Royal Mint and the Bank of Spain has become a very popular itinerary. If you want to know what were the real places Professor, Tokyo, Berlin, Denver and the rest of the members of the band went through during filming, keep reading and take some notes. In my next couple of stories, I am about to tell you what you need to know about the most exceptional and most successful "Money Heist" filming locations in Spain.
Netflix’s hit international series was first set at the Royal Mint of Spain, where the group's heist takes place. This building has become one of the most visited places amongst fans in Madrid. However, this is only the place where the storyline is set, since exterior scenes were filmed at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) headquarters due to its resemblance to the Mint, and because they did not have the space needed around the Mint.
The authentic Royal Mint can be found at 106 Juan Jorge Street and, in addition to money, it's where official identification documents and electronic certificates are printed. The inside part of the Royal Mint cannot be visited, but the Mint Museum of the annex building can. Its rooms house significant collections of numismatics, philately, lottery as well as machinery used for making money. It opens from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and weekends and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The entrance is totally free.
The building in which Berlin, Tokyo and the others locked themselves in is, in fact, the headquarters of the CSIC, a state agency that can claim to be the largest public body dedicated to research in Spain. The CSIC is located at number 113 Serrano Street. The gardens in front of the main entrance that we see in seasons 1 and 2 of La Casa de Papel do not face the street but belong to the courtyard which accesses to the building. This feature makes it ideal for filming in it without having to cut streets, redirect traffic, etc.
Last but not least, some scenes were filmed on the roof of the Higher Technical School of Aeronautical Engineers - part of the Technical University of Madrid. This is the place where Denver takes his dad Moscow and some hostages wearing Dalí masks to get some fresh air. It is also where the Inspector Murillo makes the terrible decision of shooting some of the Dalís thinking they were the actual robbers.
These are only some of the few most important locations in Ma[drid](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/alternative-culture-hubs-in-madrid-kuc1) where the first two parts of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) were filmed. Do not miss a visit to the beautiful Royal Mint & the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) headquarters where the robbers locked themselves in. Go up to the roof of the Higher Technical School of Aeronautical Engineers, and enjoy the view!
