In the heart of the first Vienna district hidden from the eyes of the most passerbys in a small cobblestone-street you can find one of the most unusual cafes, at least in Vienna’s terms. Café Neko the heaven for cats and cat lovers is the first café of this kind in Vienna. Neko is the home for five big cats, which roam the café and let themselves be petted by the guests. These cute furry animals are all adopted from the Vienna’s Animal Shelter and in the café they have plenty room for climbing, play area and secluded corners if they are not in a mood for company. However, most of them enjoy guests’ attention, except one big black cat called Sonia, which is not very keen on socialising with the guests.

The name Neko comes from the Japanese word for cat and its owner found an inspiration for her café in Japan. In East Asia, especially in Japan this type of cafes is nothing new, they are very common, because in many apartment buildings with the rent flats it is not allowed to keep the animals. So if you are the animal lover and want to pet them, you can go to the café, have a coffee and play with the animals. After this café in Vienna, which opened in 2012, numerous cat cafes were opened throughout Europe and also in the USA.

In Café Neko except playing with the cats you can treat yourselves with the Japanese home-made pastries, such as rise balls or mud cake and Japanese tea. However, you can also find good coffee in café, after all Neko is located in Vienna, European capital of good coffee. Here you can also threat cats with the cat snacks, off course only with the food provided by café. So, if you are cat person you have to visit this secluded place in a heart of the big city.
