Best Vegan Places in Eixample, Barcelona

One of the many reasons why I moved to Barcelona was the huge offer of vegan and vegetarian options in restaurants, cafés and bars. As a vegan, I must admit, it’s sometimes difficult to travel around, without having to limit yourself in your food choices. And since I’m a real foodie, the vegan food offer within a city really affects my quality of life! Barcelona is therefore a legit heaven on earth for all vegans and vegetarians out there – and since I tried out loads of restaurants, I want to give you an insight of my favourite places categorized by different districts, to make your decision a bit easier. Here are some of the best vegan restaurants in Eixample:

Açaí Bar Almalibre

When the Açaí Bar Almalibre opened their doors just a few hundred meters away from my home, I was thrilled not only to try out their different Açaí Bowls, but the many different vegan Burgers and Bowls. After my first visit I knew, this is going to become one of my new favourite hangouts. The name Açaí Bar is well-deserved, since you can order your Bowl in four different sizes, six different combinations and many other extra ingredients, or you can even be more experimental and choose your own individualized combination. My new discovery of that place is their so-called Paçoca, which is a sort of salted caramel peanut crunch – make sure you get that on your Açaí Bowl! Otherwise, I can highly recommend taking a vegan burger, where you also can choose your own combination of bread, patty, salsa, and extra toppings like a super tasty sobrasada, caramelized onions, vegan bacon or vegan cheese. Almalibre is also a really nice place to work from – there’s even one long table where you always find some people with their laptops, enjoying a workflow in the chill atmosphere of this place. Furthermore, there are always events and some yoga classes taking place here and the service is super friendly and familial.

Green & Berry

Green & Berry is a healthy juice bar with amazing sweet and savoury bowls, beetroot burgers and many vegan breakfast options like scrambled tofu, avocado toast and porridges. Their cold pressed juices and smoothies are refreshing and delicious and their incredibly tasty cakes and sweets are simply exquisite – make sure you try the vegan and gluten free donut! The portions are filling, but still a little pricey for what you get. I’d mostly recommend choosing one of the smoothie bowls, since the big selection is quite unique in Barcelona.

Brunch & Cake

Brunch & Cake is one of the most iconic eateries in Barcelona to get brunch. Although the place is neither vegetarian nor vegan, it has a few really delicious options to offer. Besides the super yummy smoothies (my favourite is the peanut banana one), you can get a delicious protein bowl with quinoa, broccoli and lentils or an organic Açaí Bowl. The place is family run and owned and creates plates that are literately meant to be photographed and posted on Instagram. There are different locations of Brunch & Cake in Barcelona, each one offering a slightly different menu.

Equilibrium Café

Equilibrium Café, former known as El Petit Princep, recently became fully vegan and is already known for its amazing plant based brunch, including speciality coffee, vegan croissants with fillings, pancakes, porridges, sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, cheese cakes and much more. One of the specialities is the veganized English breakfast with vegan scrambled eggs, beans, mushrooms, toast, plant based bacon and sausages – those who miss the solid taste of a classical English breakfast will be definitely blown away by this dish! But also their pancakes are incredibly fluffy, the coffee smooth and the ambience of the café cosy and bright. Also, Equilibrium Café ocasionally hosts cool events with life music. All in all that new café has great potential to become my new favourite place to get vegan brunch!

Eat My Trip

Eat My Trip is certainly a one of a kind restaurant and food experience! The name of the place cross-references to its creative concept – each dish is inspired by the many trips around the world of Genia, the owner of Eat My Trip, who interpretes those international dishes in her own innovative and experimental way. Already by entering the small, adorable café you notice the love for each and every detail within this place. The decor with colourful murals, such as the food itself, is very picturesque with plenty of imagination and the service is incredibly friendly and open-hearted. Each dish is presented in such a playful way with so much attention to the detail, that you could basically speak of culinary pieces of art – and I can guarantee, they taste at least as good as they look! Using only organic ingredients, they offer loads of vegan and gluten free options, just like the guacamole toast (mashed avocado on sour dough bread with sun-dried and roasted tomatoes, arugula, seeds, nuts, and sweet balsamic vinegar), oatmeal and almond matcha waffles with home made caramel sauce, chocolate, popcorn and fruits, the Sherlock’s porridge (coconut porridge with seasonal fruits, cinnamon banana, peanut butter, home made granola, nuts and caramelized coconut), healthy detox salads, delicious smoothie bowls and much more. It’s definitely the most original brunch in Barcelona and highly recommended!
