Batumi is one of the most famous and most beautiful cities in Ge[orgia](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/georgia-touch-of-the-past-taste-of-the-future-6wg0). The best season to visit this amazing city on the Black Sea is definitely summer. While enjoying beach activities, you can also discover one of the distinct subtropical floras in the world. I am going to tell you about the Batumi Botanical Garden, that can make everyone’s visit more interesting.

The Batumi Botanical Garden is the largest garden in the Caucasus region. It is located 9 km from the center of Ba[tumi](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/batumi-a-pearl-of-the-black-sea-myvc). The garden occupies 108 hectares. This place is also called Mtsvane Kontskhi, and it is translated as ‘The Green Cape.’ It is not easy to describe the great feelings that I had when I visited the garden for the first time, but I will try my best to give you a good impression of this amazing place.

History

The history of the Batumi Botanical Garden starts in the 1880s. It was the inspiration of a Russian botanist, geographer, and traveler Andrey Krasnov, who played a huge role in the opening of the garden in 1912. During the Soviet time, the garden was expanding and developing. There was a successful study of the subtropical cultures in this territory. The agronomists cultivated and decorated this place. Gradually, they added rare exotic plants in the garden. From 1998, the Batumi Botanical Garden became a proud member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International, and it played a significant role in the sharing of scientific information and developing strategies on preserving botanical gardens.
