The city of Rio de Janeiro is very well known worldwide because of its beaches and culture. The Wonder City, as it is called, holds touristic attractions like the Christ the Redeemer, the Cable car at Pão de Açucar hills, or for the football lovers, the Ma[racanã Stadium](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/the-country-of-football-maracana-stadium-in-rio-de-janeiro-gzug). But today, this article intends to describe this little place, called Arpoador Stone (in Portuguese, Pedra do Arpoador), a name it got because of its strategic localization between the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. It is a perfect spot for the end of the day after enjoying the beaches in Rio.
The Arpoador is the best-known place in Rio de Janeiro to enjoy a nice sunset near the beach. During the day, surfers enjoy the strong waves and the beautiful sun, and at night, the stone is the main attraction. The rock, which stretches out into the sea, offers a very beautiful view of the hill Dois Irmãos and every day gathers a huge number of people right at that this time - around 17h30. Keep in mind that the place is simple, just with a little infrastructure. But I guess, the reason why this place is considered one of the best places in Rio, is because it looks very natural and picturesque.
You can just go there and sit somewhere on the rocks and enjoy one of the most beautiful natural landscapes. It is a free tourist attraction! Plus, if you have time, check the Copacabana Fortress, located at the Arpoador Stone, near the Copacabana Beach. While there, I highly suggest you get a beer or even a caipirinha (Brazilian drink based on chachaça, sugar, and lemon juice) at the beach sidewalk, to complete the scenery of this trip. This will end the day perfectly.
The Stone is not just a nice lookout of the city; it is also a very important spot for the Brazilian culture, being the symbol of the famous song 'Garota de Ipanema,' composed by the singers, Tom Jobin and Vinicius de Morais. Just in front of the Stone (landside), there is a natural park named after that song (Parque Garota de Ipanema). Plus, not too far, at the beach of Ipanema's sidewalk, you can find a statue of Tom Jobim, holding his guitar.
Arpoador Stone offers a simple trip, but yet amazing. I would say that it is a mandatory stop when passing through Copacabana and Ipanema. Enjoy!!!
