Little Collins in De Pijp

Brunch in De Pijp

1. Little Collins

This is one of my treasured brunch places in Amsterdam. On a quiet leafy street in De Pijp, Little Collins was opened by an Australian couple. The rustic interior and cosy terrace spot has since become a staple amongst Amsterdammer’s weekend rituals. If you love the classic Bloody Mary for lunch, Little Collins knows how to serve the cocktail right - generous with the right kick. Their signature dish is the poached egg labneh served with the fluffiest flatbread which makes a great sidekick to soaking up any boozy brunch. Don’t even get me started on the coffee - the Aussies here know how to make a mean flat white.

They don’t take reservations so come early! I’ve never been here when there wasn’t a line for brunch. Also if you have to wait, you can sip on their coffee as an idle companion.

Address: Eerste Sweelinckstraat 19F, 1073 CL Amsterdam, Netherlands

2. Bakkers & Roasters

Brunch here is time well spent - with creative dishes, huge portions, and seasonally high-quality ingredients, Bakkers & Roasters does not disappoint. Anything that you can think of for brunch lovers - this gem serves it up. The Chorizo breakfast burrito is such a warm wholesome bite, and there’s different freshly made cakes you can try out too. There’s a fun electric current that runs through Bakkers & Roaster, either from the energetic servers or the happy crowd that comes here, making it a great brunch place to start your day.

The 1920s repurposed cinema interior of CT Coffee and Coconuts | Martha Sarah

3. CT Coffee and Coconuts

A legendary spot amongst the locals, Coffee and Coconuts is an unmissable all-day spot in De Pijp. Housed in a former 1920s old-school cinema, the space has been converted to give you beach-shack Bali meets Ibiza’s bohemian vibes. As for brunch? Nothing short of yum, with a variety for all types of dietary restrictions served to you by such friendly staff. Since this brunch place is super big with multiple floors on the inside, you won’t feel the need to rush and can spend hours on end hanging out here. Definitely try out their special coconut coffee or vegan burrito for a colourful bite.

Address: Ceintuurbaan 282-284, 1072 GK Amsterdam, Netherlands

4. Factory Girl

Hailing its “cruelty-free culinary experience” with Mediterranean flavours, Factory Girl serves all day long brunch that consists of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes! Their vegan cinnamon buns? I could literally eat them every day. My go to for brunch at Factory Girl is the çilbir, served with a yoghurt sauce that makes the perfect dip for the herb-infused vegan butter roti. The homey vibe of the restaurant makes it a comforting spot to slink into for these warm reassuring meals.

Address: Saenredamstraat 32, 1072 CH Amsterdam, Netherlands

5. Locals All Day Brunch

The cafe and coffee enthusiast in me adores the chic interiors and down-to-earth vibes of Locals All Day Brunch. People come here for the truffle eggs, as well as fantastic açai bowls that simply stimulate the tastebuds. On a sunny day, there’s a terrace right outside that makes a great spot for people-watching too. It may always be crowded on the weekends but the line is never too long until you’re seated.

Address: Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat 27-H, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Where to stay in and around De Pijp

Budget - ibis Styles Amsterdam City: A solid and reliable chain, though this particular location is the best for being near the electrifying energy of De Pijp.

Mid-range - The Arcade Hotel: In the heart of De Pijp, this hotel has a suitable name since there's a whole arcade that you can play games in!

Luxury - Sir Albert Hotel: Stay in style with this those in the know hotel.

Cruising Amsterdam on Gs Brunch Boat

Brunch in De Jordaan

6. Gs Brunch Boat

If you want to have the most Dutch experience ever - aka, boating through the canals paired with delicious brunch - then Gs Brunch Boat is the answer. While you’re served Mimosas, oysters, eggs benny or vegan dishes, you’ll be sitting right by the window of a heritage wooden boat that takes you through scenic waterways. It’s a laid-back vibe as you pass by heritage homes and houseboats bobbing in the water. Each table is guaranteed a window seat on the boat, and brunching while you’re cruising Amsterdam makes it a unique way to experience the city. The time is around 1 hour and 30 minutes of boating on the canals while you brunch, pairing perfectly with your drink and meal.

Address: Pick Up Point, Keizersgracht 198, 1016 DW Amsterdam, Netherlands

7. New Dutch Amsterdam

Ok, what’s not to love about New Dutch? The interior has an eclectic bohemian feel, but the terrace is truly the star. Whenever I come for a contemporary brunch at New Dutch, my friends and I always sit canal-side by the boat houses on the water. From there, we love people-watching while biting into the healthy green dishes. You’re at the perfect location, right on the Prinsengracht, one of the most picturesque canals of Amsterdam. The portions here, for Dutch standards, are very generous and the menu is really budget-friendly (a meal is on average 10-13 euros).

Address: Prinsengracht 60-62, 1015 DX Amsterdam, Netherlands

8. Pluk

Cuteness is the only word that can properly describe Pluk. From the most Marie Antoinette-era looking cakes and tarts, to the wide vegan options and brunch consisting of scrumptious yogurt bowls - Pluk will feel like a little fairytale cafe in De Jordaan. If you enjoy aesthetically-pleasing places in intimate-cosy settings, Pluk makes for an insta-worthy brunch. The double-layer french toast came highly recommended and did not disappoint for the balance of sweetness and savoury in such fluffy toast.

Address: Berenstraat 19, 1016 GG Amsterdam, Netherlands

Staring at Jacob in Amsterdam West

Brunch in Amsterdam West

9. Staring at Jacob

Syrup-drenched chicken and waffles? You had me at first bite! Many memories were made at Staring at Jacob, your friendly neighbourhood brunch bar. The fried chicken is so tender and crispy that each bite you take into it, paired with the cloud-like waffles, was like an opera sung on my tongue. Old school hip-hop tracks play while you can sit out by the canals or inside this casual come-as-you-are brunch spot. If you can plan ahead and book in advance, definitely do because the locals flock to this place on the weekend and I’ve seen too often how the line goes snaking around the block.

Address: Jacob Van Lennepkade 215, 1054 ZP Amsterdam, Netherlands

10. The Breakfast Club

Their freshly squeezed juices along with a welcoming friendly atmosphere is easy to vibe with when you can come at any time of the day and still enjoy brunch. Yep, they serve all-day breakfast here! With worldly spins on brunch dishes like New York-inspired buttermilk pancakes, Mexico City-imagined huevos rancheros and London-dappled English breakfast, you don’t have to travel far to sink your teeth into a good brunch. The menu is also affordable on a budget - with no dish costing more than 13 euros!

Address: Bellamystraat 2-h, 1053 BL Amsterdam, Netherlands

11. Bakkerswinkel Westerpark

Ambience from being housed in an industrial red-brick former factory? Check. Buttery croissants and dishes like vegan quiche or sourdough bread sandwiches? Check. Mimosas out by westerpark? Check. When it comes to Bakkerswinkel Westerpark, what’s not to love?! You can also have high tea here with fresh out of the oven scones and sandwiches. Another favourite is the authentic Dutch pancakes - they make it like how a proper Dutch household would, thin like crepes yet oh so heart-meltingly savoury.

Address: Polonceaukade 1&2, 1014 DA Amsterdam, Netherlands

Slowth Brunch in Amsterdam Zuid

Brunch in Amsterdam Zuid

12. Slowth Brunch

Hands down one of my favourite brunch places in Amsterdam (I know, it’s really hard to choose), Slowth Brunch is an easygoing triumph. While most of Amsterdam’s brunch scene focuses on western dishes, Sloth Brunch proudly serves up Taiwanese yumminess for brunch. We’re talking bubble milk tea, formosa rib ham pancake rolls, chicken popcorn, and burgers with a twist (like the doddo burger, which is made out of crispy soy duck).

Address: Koninginneweg 218, 1075 EL Amsterdam, Netherlands

13. Dignita Vondelpark

Getting away from the tourists in Amsterdam in tricky, especially if you’re in and around Vondelpark. But the thing is, the south end of Vondelpark is mostly inhabited by locals. Since Vondelpark is so huge, most tourists don’t make it to the south end, nevertheless hangout around this part of Amsterdam Zuid (which I think is one of the most stunning parts of the neighbourhood in Amsterdam). That’s what makes Dignita a great spot to brunch, pre or post-park stroll, coupled with dishes like broccoli chickpea frittata or homemade open lamb sandwiches.

Address: Koninginneweg 218, 1075 EL Amsterdam, Netherlands

14. Corner Bakery Amsterdam

A little spot amongst the gilded glamour of Amsterdam Zuid, Corner Bakery Amsterdam is a playful approach to brunch. Their milkshakes are simply an out of this world guilty-pleasure and they have a selection of gluten-free bread for any of their rolls. With an extensive brunch menu ranging from savoury dishes, pastries, salads, toast and rolls, there’s a little something for everyone here.

15. MOAK Pancakes

Fluffy American-style pancakes + a magnanimous topping of fruits like strawberries and cream = now that’s a combination for a fun brunch. MOAK Pancakes speciality are picturesque plates of pancakes (hey, who says food can’t also be art?) with fun industrial design in the heart of Amsterdam. Not one just for a sweet tooth? There are also savoury pancakes that are topped with bacon, cheese and caramelized onions. Also, ones that take your best brunch dishes like salmon and avocado and serve them to you on pancakes instead of toast.

16. Blue Amsterdam

Wondering where in Amsterdam has the best city views with your brunch? Blue Amsterdam is a glass cafe that has panoramic views of the city. The atmosphere is unmatched to look out onto 17th-century Golden Age canal buildings as you bite into Dutch dishes like croquette, bitterballen or international brunch plates like shakshuka and all-day breakfast plates. This brunch place can be a bit tricky to find as well since it’s on top of the Kalverpassage, a shopping complex.

Address: Winkelcentrum Kalverpassage, Singel 457, 1012 WP Amsterdam, Netherlands

Dim Sum at Hoi Tin in Amsterdam's Chinatown

17. Hoi Tin

Growing up, brunch for my family didn’t mean your eggs or avocado, it meant dim sum. While there are some really great dim sum spots all around Amsterdam, I keep returning to Hoi Tin. Family-owned and in Amsterdam’s Chinatown, Hoi Tin serves authentic old-style Cantonese dishes. From the dim sum must-haves like har gow and siu mai, to turnip cake and any other rarer dim sum dishes, this place has it all. Hoi Tin is also a Chinese bakery, so you can get pastries like traditional egg tarts too. Service is also quick and no-nonsense, so you know they don’t play around!

Address: Zeedijk 122, 1012 BB Amsterdam, Netherlands

18. Omelegg

The location here can’t get more central and easy to reach than this Omelegg. No matter how you like your eggs - be it a shashuka style, sunny-side up, omelette, or my preferred way, on an open croissant, Omelegg puts a creative spin on it. We all know Amsterdam isn’t exactly a budget-friendly city, but Omelegg doesn’t come close to breaking the bank as most of their dishes are around 10 euros! Serving up quality and quantity, this place knows what a hearty brunch is.

Box Sociaal in Amsterdam Oost

Brunch in Amsterdam Oost

A quality brunch hangout with bespoke cocktails and roasted coffee, Box Sociaal stems from kind hospitality and the simplicity of good people serving good food. Bringing the Australian sunshine to Amsterdam, the playful dishes are donned names like Bondi Bowl and Indian Summer. Boozy brunch just wouldn’t be the same without cocktails like P&T (a Lisbon-style white port and tonic) or a spin on Dutch Stroopwafel espresso martini and the Bloody Oath Sambal Mary.

21. The Cottage

Is this the cosiest spot for brunch in the city? Taking cues from the remote English countryside, brunching here is like going on a mini weekend getaway to your friend’s cottage abode. Traditional English Sunday roast in the Netherlands, who would have thought? Yet The Cottage makes this get-together an experience topped off with desserts like a custard scone cake that is effortlessly mouthwatering.

22. Benji’s

What is it about brunch that makes it such a fantastic meal? Perhaps because it feels more like a celebration than just a regular eating time.
