Meet Etterbeek

Expats and families alike, welcome to the suburbia of Etterbeek! This quiet and peaceful neighbourhood of Brussels is great for everyone. In fact, some say it’s the best residential district in Brussels! It’s closely located to the EU hub, so it makes sense that international workers choose to settle down here. There’s also several big international schools in the area that draw in a pretty big crowd.

Thanks to all types of locals calling Etterbeek home, this area of Brussels has tons of variety when it comes to activities and restaurants. If you’re looking for a place to hangout, Place Jourdan is the spot. Visit the the square to find great bars, but we can’t go on without mentioning the beloved Belgian frites stand Maison Antoine! Grab some fries to go and enjoy a local beer at one of the nearby terraces, the bar owners are all cool with it! Plus there’s the weekly Sunday market - a much more laid back version compared to Midi if you want to avoid the crowds. If it’s fresh air you’re after, there are plenty of green spaces to choose from like the Jean-Felix Hap Park. Etterbeek is a lovely neighborhood filled with beautiful architecture, charming houses, and great cultural venues, and we think you should check it out!

Learn Something New

Do you like museums? What about insanely gorgeous parks? What if we told you that you could do both? Etterbeek is conveniently situated near the Cinquantenaire Park, a luscious green park dominated by a triumphal arch with three arches. You can find museums within the park, including the Art & History Museum and Autoworld. Dive into ancient and medieval art in a massive museum filled with prehistoric artefacts, or fasten your seatbelts and race to see all of the impressive vehicles at the museum dedicated to super sweet cars. The best part? After your museum trip you can take a stroll through the park gardens and continue to explore all of Etterbeek!

Get Outdoors

There’s plenty of greenery to go around in Etterbeek! Here you’ve got two main park areas to explore: Jean-Felix Hap Garden and the infamous Cinquantenaire Park. For a more intimate park experience, the Jean-Felix Hap Garden is the perfect spot. It’s a bit of a quiet sanctuary that’s great for an afternoon stroll in the fresh air. If you need something a bit more grand, then head to Cinquantenaire Park - it’s filled with a picturesque garden, historical monuments, museums, and even a track field if you want to work out like the locals. During the summer it’s known for hosting events and festivals, so there’s always something to do! Choose one or go to both, but it’s definitely worth a stop when visiting Etterbeek.

Sip n Dine

All this sightseeing got you hungry? No need to get hangry, there are plenty of delicious food options around the neighborhood. If you’re a fan of My Tannour from Flagey, prepare your tastebuds for their sister restaurant, Mine Madeh! The Syrian spot has a menu filled with traditional dishes filled with veggies and falafel. If it’s Mexican you’re craving, there’s also Le Cartel - serving up yummy tacos, nachos, and bowls directly from Mexico to Brussels! If there’s one place we can’t leave out, it’s Maison Antoine. It’s so famous even the Royal family have stopped through for their frites! Don’t be surprised if the line stretches pretty far, but trust us: it’s worth it!

When it comes to drinking in Etterbeek, Place Jourdan is your best bet. The lively square is filled with bars for everyone. Right in the square you have Pepete et Ronron and Kosmos - the perfect local spot for an afterwork drink with friends. Pair it with frites from Maison Antoine (the bars let you bring the fries into the bar!) and guarantee yourself a great time out.

Shop til You Drop

While there may not be any huge shopping streets in Etterbeek, there’s still some great options to stock up on food and other goods. Place Jourdan has a weekly market on Sundays where you can grab fresh veggies and fruit, croquettes, and other local delicacies. For more of the everyday shopping, locals rave over The Barn, an organic market offering local and sustainable food. Food aside, you can also check out Filigranes - a massive library where you’re bound to find your next favourite book!
