Saffron Walden

The southern areas like Dorset, Cornwall and Sussex are the best place to visit for beaches, sunshine and beautiful but rugged coastlines. The central area contains London and Birmingham, the two largest cities (10 million and 1 million people respectively) as well as slightly smaller cities like Liverpool and Manchester. These cities (the ones outside of London particularly) are becoming incredibly popular in the last few years, with amazing food, entertainment, art and culture growing year on year. The north of England holds much of the farming land, as well as stunning national parks like the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. London has several airports that are the gateway to almost anywhere you’d like to visit in the world, and there are regional airports in many of the smaller cities as well, with Birmingham Airport and Liverpool Airport being amongst the cheapest. Getting around the country is easy and hassle-free, if slightly more expensive than public transport in mainland Europe. The trains run very well, and are clean, but they are quite expensive. Perhaps the best way to get around is by bus with two main companies – Megabus and National Express. English cuisine is really a mix of everything, with more than 50,000 pubs to find traditional England food, as well as a lot of Indian, Chinese food in almost every town and city as well.

In the beautiful grounds of the 18th century Toll House we offer accommodation in our delightful 'Garden Room'.  The Garden Room has two bedrooms, sleeping 5 in total, one with a double and single bed and one with twin beds.  It also has its own ensuite facilities: wc, shower and sink.  We pride ourselves on offering substantial breakfasts to set you up for the day (either full English or Continental) using quality ingredients and fresh eggs from our own happy hens.  We are within 10 minutes walking distance from Newport's train station with its direct link to London Liverpool Street (one hour) or Cambridge (24 mins).  We are a 15 minute drive from Stansted Airport and the M11 and 5 minutes from the bustling and historical market town of Saffron Walden with its many shops, pubs and restaurants.  In Newport itself, we are a few minutes walk from two pubs, an Indian Restaurant, a Tea Room, a Bakery and the local village shop.
