Thurso

The country also has almost 800 islands scattered around its coastline, with the largest and best known being the wind-swept little pieces of land called Shetland and Orkney (the Northern Isles) on the north-eastern coast and the Inner and Outer Hebrides on the north-western coast. Visiting Scotland is easy, with airports in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness. You can also reach it easily by train from almost any city in England. The most visited city in Scotland is undoubtedly Edinburgh, where charming streets, a dominating and historic castle and beautiful scenery all come together. Many people also visit the Cairngorms National Park in the northern part, and the Trossachs National Park to the west.

Merlin Cinema Thurso in Caithness is the UK mainland’s most northerly entertainment venue. It re-opened in July 2012 as The Thurso Cinema after a successful public campaign.  The cinema has two screens - 152 and 88 seats a-piece. Customers can enjoy the latest Sony 4K digital projection, Dolby 7.1 sound technology, 3D and event cinema shows live via satellite.

Merlin Cinemas have taken over the venue as of November 2015, and future development plans include converting the adjacent disused bowling alley into additional cinema screens to satisfy the demand for an even wider choice of film entertainment and events.
