Gothenburg Metropolitan Area

As modern as its society is, Sweden is a country full of seemingly untouched nature and ever-present history. First stop for many visitors is historic and compact Stockholm, full of heritage, home to the Vasa Museum and gateway to the Stockholm Archipelago.  Yet, you haven't seen Sweden until you've admired its natural side. Its wide natural landscapes offer a multitude of splendid vistas and sights, from dense forests to crystal clear lakes, waterfalls and rolling mountains. The stunning but rugged wilderness of Sarek National Park, called “Europe's last wilderness” by some, is a challenging but highly rewarding area to explore. It was the first of a list of 29 established national parks and is part of the vast and Unesco protected terrains of Laponia, together with the national parks Padjelanta, Stora Sjöfallet and the taiga and ravines of Muddus National Park. Set out to spot elk, wolverines and more Swedish wildlife or visit in winter for a chance to see the magical Northern Lights. Kosterhavet maritime park is the place to go for lobster or seal safaris.

Sweden

When in Gothenburg, make sure you visit Liseberg, the most noted attraction, which is an amusement park, located in the central part of the city. It is the largest amusement park in Scandinavia. Also, worth seeing is The Gothenburg Central Station, with its beautiful nordic architecture. On the other hand, the city of Vänersborg, is ideal for those who like to explore, as it offers a pure and magnificent nature, capable to host several activities. You can go to Ursand, one of the most beautifully located campsites in Europe, or to the Brinkebergskulle slussar, a water lock sitting just south of lake Vanern and great place to do a bit of ship watching. For relaxing, chose Gaddesanna, a great sand beach on the north edge of the mountain Halleberg.

Västra Götaland

Slottsskogen is a 137 hectares large park located in central Gothenburg. When Gothenburg was founded in the 17th century, the area of Slottsskogen was a forest that belonged to (the old) Älvsborg Fortress. In the 1880s the city had grown to the vicinity of the forest, and merchant August Kobb took initiative to create the city park, which has the character of an English garden with lawns and trees.
