Plaza de las Flores

The Plaza de las Flores is located in the historic center of the city of Murcia. It is an open space, bordered by buildings of the nineteenth century, which connects to the squares of Santa Catalina and San Pedro.      This square acts as an important center of social relationship, since in her flower stalls, shops, restaurants and entertainment centers are located.      Until the first half of the seventeenth century there was in this square a building called The Butchers, whose name reveals the activity performed therein. By 1630 the building was sold and demolished by its owner, projecting here the construction of a Plaza. This was called Plaza Pedro Diaz Cassou, in honor of the erudite writer Murcia. In 1968 the area received the name of Plaza de las Flores, name that traditionally had been known for Murcia.
