To tell the story of the Library of Montequinto would have to start with the visits of the books, a new ambulance loan service that began operating in 1989 under the slogan "Books travel for you."
After a long and complicated process begun in March of 1989, the Library of Montequinto (Dos Hermanas) opened its doors on June 4, 1994 in the little house on the avenue of the Pines, heart of the neighborhood, between the big blocks of flats of the first inhabitants and the Church. It had a total of 110 square meters, 60 reading posts and a capacity for about 5,000 volumes.
The high number of visitors, the great demand for information and consultation, the strong demand for more services has been a constant since the day of its inauguration, so, from October 1, 2010 the DESIRE of the new Montequinto Library has become a REALITY, a library located in the center of a large neighborhood, in a building of 3 floors, very well connected (metro, bus, bike path ...), easily accessible (parking), surrounded by houses and schools .
A library integrated in a cultural space with 2,400 square meters, which has 230 reading posts, more than 40,000 volumes and a varied program of cultural activities and animation to reading.
The rooms of the library are spacious and bright and equipped with special furniture for library use: current room, loan and consultation and children's room.
The study room with capacity for 76 people, the exhibition areas, 8 multipurpose classrooms, a computer room and an auditorium with a capacity of 150 places complete this new reality that has become a social and cultural reference in Dos Hermanas : THE CULTURAL CENTER LIBRARY OF MONTEQUINTO.
When you work to give life to these spaces, when you put a heart to a project so desired, it becomes MUCH MORE than a building and the library becomes, as it was said at its inauguration, the Minister of Culture, Mr. D. Paulino Plata in 'a place for study, training, information, meeting and above all to grow as people'.
Or as the mayor of Dos Hermanas, D. Francisco Toscano, pointed out in "a living focus of culture, formation and what is more important, a place for the coexistence of Montequinto neighbors."
The Montequinto Library has become a meeting point where thousands of people are attracted by their resources and activities, people who continue to value the library as a place of trust.
The users of library services are those who make a daily library with their participation and collaboration, and are each with their opinions and demands the main generators of change that makes the libraries on their own merits as the engine of social transformation and in our case, in the "heart of the local culture".
