6 km from Infiesto, capital of the Council of Piloña (just over half an hour from Oviedo by car) we find the beautiful village of ESPINAREDO, with only 75 inhabitants and a single bar, in which one of the largest collections of granaries is conserved of all the Principality of Asturias. Some of the granaries date back to the 16th or 17th centuries, and most of them are still in good use.
But what exactly is a hórreo?
The hórreo is one of the most famous and representative constructions of our "Natural Paradise". It is a square building that consists of a wooden chamber, often with a corridor, which is supported on four feet, or pegollos. They are built as a place to store food, away from the humidity and the stalking of animals such as mice and all kinds of rodents, thanks to those pegollos that sustain them. Most do not carry a single nail, at most one at the top, all planks and woods being carefully assembled. Only recently have rivets, tips, nails or screws been used.
Espinaredo is an ideal place if you want to spend a day in the countryside, surrounded by nature, with its granary care decorated with pots of colorful flowers, many of them carved with mystic-magical signs or simply with the brands of their builders and even generational messages waiting to be interpreted by the most curious.
In Espinaredo, in addition, the lovers of the senderismo will be able to enjoy the smooth route of the FOCES OF THE HELL, to only 12 km of Infiesto starting off of the magical recreational area of THE PESANCA.
Enjoy a nice getaway to this wonderful Asturian villa, a perfect excuse to enjoy a day in the middle of nature and disconnect from the busy daily rhythm.
