450 years old isn't so old... When it comes to the world's oldest vine!

In the heart of Maribor, a stunning historical town in the Podravje wine region is the world’s oldest vine. At the fine age of over 450 years old, the spiralling plant wraps itself around the Old Vine House, a museum dedicated to itself.

The locals of Maribor have even created an anthem for the Old Vine, proud that the tree was planted here at the end of the Middle Ages. Still producing grapes, you may spot the Bleu de Cologne grape - a deep blue fruit hanging from the vines.

In the Old Vine House, you’ll see the Guinness Book of World Records certificate, awarded to the World’s Oldest vine. You’ll also hear stories of how such proof was unearthed to dedicate this vine tree as the oldest, as well as the story of the archduke Janez, who had a hand in shaping the wine-making industry of the region.
