If you want to go on a stroll to see the various pastoral sights of Posavje wine region, this is the hike for you!

While the winegrower locals do this hike each year as a tradition, the Ostrovrhar’s wine trail can be done at your own leisurely pace.

Starting at the village of Zagrad, a marker of the area is the historical Cumar Mill which dates back to 1920 and is still the only one that works in the Sopota valley. Making your way along the trail, you’ll reach the little hamlet of Vetrni vrh. This is where you can spot what’s left of Ostrovhar’s castle on a hill.

Continue to Vetrni vrh’s old forest path where you’ll see the signpost for “od zidanice do zidanice” marking where you’ll be soon passing by the adorable vineyard cottages that Posavje is known for. The cottages all look like they can be inhabited by fairytale beings since they’re so beautifully made.

Here is where you can do pitstops for wine tasting and hear stories from the local winemakers of their traditional methods of cultivating and producing wine, passed down through the ages.
