**Designed by Slovenia’s most famous architect, Jože Plečnik, this beautiful church has now been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. **
Located at the Ljubljana Marshes, just outside of the city centre, this unique church was designed to withstand the unique landscape. The famous architect Plečnik is often credited for his innovative designs to battle the marshy waters the church was built on, such as use of unique materials and the use of over 100 supports to stabilise the building.
Despite the incredible architectural skill that went into creating this church, the church itself is also beautiful. Distinctive for having an open bell tower, the design of the Catholic church sets itself apart from the average church in Europe. The arches under the staircase almost seem to create an optical illusion when looking at them, and the wooden interior is filled with intricate details purposefully placed by the genius architect.
