**Visit the historical salt fields in Secovlje Salina Nature Park and learn the traditional ways of salt production, while enjoying tranquil nature. **

These salt fields were awarded the Europa Nostra Prize by the European Union, which celebrates the salt pans' incredible initiatives for preservation of cultural heritage. This was awarded to the Slovenian salt fields due to the fact that they have been active saltworks since the 13th century, and to this day, Slovenia produces salt in the same traditional way to preserve the natural and cultural heritage and importance of these salt fields.

The northernmost Mediterranean saltworks are possible to visit via an easy to moderate walking trail, which takes about 40 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your speed. The walk itself is friendly for kids, bikes, and strollers, so it is a mostly flat trail that is a great way to get some fresh air and discover an extremely culturally significant landscape.
