Take a beautiful and laidback journey - down an epic river.

The Sava River runs through the mountains of western Slovenia and actually continues through Croatia and then Bosnia and Herzegovina. The idea of it connecting so many countries, ending up in the confluence of the Danube in Serbia, makes you realise just how big this beautiful river is.

In the Posavje wine region of Slovenia you can experience a slice of the Sava River, and actually, explore it with a huge wooden raft ride. Starting from the TRC Savus harbour, your raft journey begins with an on ode to an ancient Slavic tradition of taking a shot of blueberry schnapps with a bite of salt and bread before you embark.

While you’re rafting down the narrow gorge in this part of the Sava River, you’ll hear stories about the Sava as well as hear folk songs (playing live from a cool accordion!). Pass under beautiful bridges and observe how turquoise the blue water is as it reflects the surrounding mountains on its surface.

Tips and Tricks

  • Even though you're under a canopy, wear sunscreen since the sunshine will still feel strong as it reflects off the river!
