A glacial valley carved out from the nearby alps to create a ripple of gorges is a sight to behold.

This is the Kamniška Bistrica Valley, where - wherever you turn to look -you’ll see the rugged peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps as a backdrop.

There are many gems in this cool under-shade of the alps. Running through the valley is the glowing cerulean waters of the Kamniška Bistrica river. The springs here are so fresh that you can refill your water bottle for a refreshing sip during your hike! It’s no wonder that the 33 kilometres of the flowing river it’s also known as one of the cleanest rivers in Slovenia.

As you stroll along the river, the pathway will intersect with the Veliki and Mali Predaselj gorges. This is where the Kamniška Bistrica river has carved itself deep into the bed - at 30 metres in no less!

Tips and Tricks

  • It’s possible to descend down and explore the bottom of the gorge, but we highly recommend having the right equipment to do so.
  • From the Kamniška Bistrica Valley, you can also go to the high plateaus of Velika Planina via a cable car.
