Dimitrovgrad

Serbia numbers around 7 million residents. Its capital, Belgrade, ranks among the oldest and largest cities in Southeastern Europe. The Pannonian Plain covers the northern third of the country (Vojvodina and Mačva) while the easternmost tip of Serbia extends into the Wallachian Plain. Serbia's many sights include stunning castles, Medieval monasteries, lovely traditional villages and bustling cities with baroque parks and art-deco architecture. Largest national park in the country is Đerdap in the eastern part of the country, on the border with Romania. It consists of the Djerdap gorge thru which the river Danube runs and its beautiful surroundings of almost untouched nature.

Partially cleared forests were transformed into vineyards and orchards. Wine from Župa and the royal cellars in Oplenac are droplets of history distilled into tradition. The villages of central Serbia nurture the tradition of good health, typical of this region. Central Serbia is often thought of as one big fruit and vegetable garden with a big product production annually. Chose among fishing, hunting, skiing, swimming or horse-riding, as they are the main activities you should try in this region.

Central Serbia

The Jerma originates in the undeveloped and sparsely populated area of Krajište, in the southeastern corner of Serbia. Starting from the area between the artificial Lake Vlasina and the Bulgarian border, it flows to the northwest on the eastern slopes of the Gramada mountain. It crosses the border between Serbia and Bulgaria twice. The road following the river Jerma is one of the most scenic ones in Serbia.
