The museum started at the decision of the Municipal Council of the Town Hall of Bucharest, at the end of June 1921, which proposed the establishment of a communal museum. On December 10, 1956, the museum was awarded the Suţu Palace and on January 23, 1959, the Museum of History of Bucharest was reopened for the public. Suţu Palace is a historical monument dating from 1834. The collection of archeology includes pieces from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Geto-Dacian from Fundeni, Snagov, Popeşti-Novaci, Piscul Hill. The collection of numismatics, medals and sigilography: Ottoman, Austrian and Russian monasteries, seals evoking the great Boiresti families. The photo collection: over 50,000 photos, glass clips, films, including the first photographic images of Bucharest. Collection of documents: chrisoave, the oldest dating from 1488-1582, the Manuc fund (in Armenian language with Turkish characters), medieval, modern and contemporary documents. Collection of maps and plans, with pieces on the history of Bucharest, at Pen. Balkan, the Danube course, and some of the boyars' lands. The collection of plastic art is made up of paintings, drawings, funeral stones, steams. Collection of historical furniture and household items, collection of weapons, uniforms, flags, costumes and textile collection.
