The history of the Regional Museum in Głogówek dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, well-known historian and collector, baron Ernst von Woikowsky-Biedau, organized the first museum, which occupied a few rooms of the so-called. Gartenburgu. He collected many interesting exhibits from Głogówek and its surroundings. Great help in organizing the collections was shown by the students of the Głogów Pedagogical Seminar (Lehrerseminars). After the death of Woikowski von Biedau in 1912 many of the most valuable exhibits were taken over by the Museums in Nysa, Gliwice, Racibórz and Bytom. On May 1, 1928, the surviving collections were merged with the regional chamber, which was created after the first war in the building of the seminary. Then a new Heimatmuseum was created, the director of which was Josef Strecke, Rector of the Primary School. In the first period of existence the collections were presented in the attic at school, then - in the building of the old fire station, in the vicinity of the monastery church. In the spring of 1932 the collection was enlarged with a collection of more than 3000 exhibits, a collection of paintings, maps and books presented by the head of the school Dr. Rhein. These were the 130-year-long seminary collections, which provided educational aid. The main collection of the Museum belonged to the archive, which had a rich collection of books and regional press. Small space, display difficulties and ever-increasing collections were the reason for the relocation of the museum's headquarters to a new location. The official opening of the Castle Gate took place on November 12, 1932, in which it continued its function until 1945. Josef Strecke died on 24.5.1935. The new director of the Museum was Alfred Kosian, a well-deserved teacher and publicist, a monograph of Głogówek. On 22.11.1937, the museum's headquarters were transferred to the monastery Refektorium.

The post-war history of the Museum begins in the seventies. On the initiative of the Głogówek Society of Fans, on July 22, 1975, a new Regional Museum was organized in four rooms of the lower part of the castle. At the beginning of the reactivation, the museum primarily dealt with the rescue of the destruction of old household tools and outfits, the promotion of knowledge of the region. As early as September 1976, the Social Committee for Reconstruction and Development of the Castle in Głogówek decides to create a Museum of Jan Cybis at the existing Regional Museum, as a branch of the Museum of Silesian Opole in Opole. Alberta Szyndzielor was appointed the manager. The collection featured rich collections of over 80 oil paintings and more than 800 sketches, drawings and watercolors by Cybis. The location of the collection of a famous Polish painter in the castle was intended to attract the attention of Warsaw and to facilitate the renovation of the Ministry of Culture and Art.

In the next time, the collections were gradually organized. In 1977 Rafał Urbana was opened at the Castle Gate and the room of the former castle library was erected, in which a concert hall named Ludwik van Beethoven was erected.

The collections of Jan Cybis returned to Opole in 1993. The Regional Museum was gradually transformed into an administrative one, changing its profile. In the years 1997-2007, its director was Barbara Grzegorczyk. At that time, new thematic expositions related to the Oppersdorffs, the stay of King Jan Kazimierz in Głogówek, as well as the Chamber of the Star, were presented, showing a rich collection of kitchen equipment from the interwar period. The main focus was on the organization of cultural life in the city.

The Regional Museum has been the co-organizer of many scientific and touristic conferences, the organizer of the Beethoven Festival and the tourist services in the city.
