Muzeum Miejskie w Żorach

The Municipal Museum was established on December 28, 2000. At the initiative of the authorities of the city of Żory, individuals gathered around the Society of the City of Żory and the then director of the Municipal Cultural Center Lucjan Buchalik.

The museum took over the collections of the former regional chamber and part of the private African collection, which was the basis for the separation of two content areas: the Department of History and Culture of the Region and the Department of Cultures of Europe. African artifacts, one of the few in Poland, have become a hallmark of the Oder Museum. Our research expeditions are constantly growing and becoming the largest of its kind in Southern Poland. The Department of History and Culture of the Region collects all kinds of exhibits related to the history of Żory and the nearest region.
