Maciejowice was the place of the tragic battle of October 10, 1794, which ended with the defeat of the insurgents and the capture of the insurgent leader Tadeusz Kosciuszko. From the moment of the battle in Maciejowice there was a memory of insurgents and tragic events of 10 October. An important role in the memory of the battle was played by the Zamoyski family, the heirs of the Maciejowice estate settled in Podzamcze (the battlefield). Already at the beginning of the 19th century, they collected souvenirs from the battlefield of Maciejowice. They also took care of the legendary Kosciuszko Leaf standing in front of the palace in Podzamcze, under which was wounded Tadeusz Kościuszko. Memory has survived also among the local community, and the testimony of this is the numerous legends associated with the battle. Maciejowice's community remembered Kosciuszko, bred its posthumous legend and has done it to this day. Each year, on the anniversary of the Battle of Maciejowice, the Kosciuszko Rally is organized on the routes of the insurgents and the Russian army. In Maciejowice these days, the Kosciuszko Symposium presents scientific lectures on the Kościuszko period.
History of the Museum im. Tadeusz Kosciuszko in Maciejowice goes back to 1984 when, at the Commune Center of Culture in Maciejowice, a Kościuszko exposition was created, which is the nucleus of the future institution. The strong cult of Kościuszkowski in Maciejowice, the voices of the local community, and the active activities of the Maciejowice Lovers Association led to the founding of the. Tadeusz Kosciuszko, whose seat was defended in the XIXth century Maciejowice Town Hall, built around 1796 by Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski. Maciejowickie Museum was established as a division of the Regional Museum in Siedlce. In its inaugural act, its tasks were: gathering, searching for cultural goods and documentation, collecting collected museums, carrying out scientific and popularization activities. The establishment became the glory of the inhabitants of Maciejowice. There are memorabilia related to the life and worship of Tadeusz Kosciuszko and archaeological memorabilia from the battles of Kosciuszko (especially the battle of Maciejowice). The museum's remains are constantly being expanded. In the mind of the "small beautiful" maxim, we invite you to the only Polish Museum of the Chief, and visit the battlefield of Maciejowice, where the Uprising died, and the legend of the Great Pole Tadeusz Kosciuszko was born.
