"Rialto" started its activity in 1913 as "Kammer - Lichtspiele". Probably the first cinema in Upper Silesia launched in a facility built specifically for this purpose. The cinema stood on Św. Jana 24. The building belonged to Martin Tichauer and Berthold Kochmann. The "Kammer - Lichtspiele" cinema theater impressed with the orchestra, the upstairs restaurant with Polish service, the cigar roaster and the program; He impressed with the exquisite and classicist façade. The movie only premiered. From the then press we learn that the cinema "Kammer - Lichtspiele" has already organized outdoor shows in the area between the cinema and the railway network.
Kinoteatr changed its name several times during its activity. In 1928, the "Kammer - Lichtspiele" cinema, under the influence of a sanctioning campaign calling for the removal of the German language from public life, changed its name to "Rialto". Once again, in 1938, the then-renters of the cinema - Jerzy Kunstliger from Katowice, Dr. Menasse Katz from Cracow and Dr. Leopold Glesner from Warsaw, to escape the debts of the Treasury Company changed the name of the cinema to "The Sun". Other changes took place in 1939 when the theater adopted the name "UFA - Theater Rialto" and in 1945, when it was finally renamed "Rialto". In the post-war years, it served as a repertoire of cinemas, which was visited by the inhabitants of Katowice.
In recent years, several multiplexes have appeared in the city, resulting in a major change in the cinema market. Rialto has faced new challenges. It was decided to thoroughly renovate and transform the facility into a cinema. Since October 2006, Rialto has been a member of the Studio Kin Network. During the three years of operation (from the completion of the renovation), the Rialto Cinematheque held a number of film screenings devoted to the world's leading filmmakers. Federico Fellini, Pedro Almodovar, Luis Buñuel, Tom Tykwer, David Lynch, Wong Kar-Waia or Emir Kusturica. Rialto cinema is also the organizer of the cyclical events: Mountain Film Review, Zielono mi Ecological Culture Festival and Underwater Film Review. There is also a SENIOR FILM CLUB in Rialta, where once a month we invite older people to attend a discounted ticket price. On the Cabaret Stage of the Rialto Cinemas, there are many outstanding Polish artists, among them: Cabaret MUMIO, Arthur Andrusa, Cabaret Hunter B, Ireneusz Krosny, Tomasz Jachimka and Chatelet Formation. Rialto Music Stage Marcin Wasilewski's Trio, Maria Peszek, Mika Urbaniak, Maria Sadowska, Novika, Grażyna Auguścik, Aga Zaryan and LAO CHE.
