Discover Zeeland’s past at this museum found inside a beautiful abbey in Middleburg.

If you want to find out all about the Netherlands’ westernmost province, head to the capital Middelsburg and to the Zeeuws Museum. Explore Zeeland across the centuries and discover diverse stories told through the hundreds of objects on display. In the museum's permanent exhibition you can see the famous Zeeland tapestries.

  • Woven around the turn of the 17th century, the impressive tapestries depict battles during the 80 Years War. One of these tapestries was named one of the 50 most important tapestries in the world!
  • Maritime Spoils: Another permanent exhibition, The Chamber of Wonders, displays artifacts collected by Zeelander’s across the ages, such as a Chinese vase and a mammoth tusk.
  • Temporary Exhibitions: Be sure to check if there are any interesting temporary exhibits whilst you’re there. They host quite a variety, from art to Roman antiquities.

After a look around the museum, check out the rest of the abbey. Climb up the Long John tower to get great views over the city.
